Air Condition Use during DC Charging

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know whether the AC uses the 12V battery or the car's battery pack during a DC fast charging session? Thanks!

It is my own understanding that the fan motor in the HVAC is powered by the 12 volt battery, therefore the 12 volt battery IS required to power the fan motor.
The heater element pulls its power from the HV battery.
 
I may be wrong but i’d be very surprised if anything was running at 450v direct from the HV pack apart from the drive motor. It will be interesting to find out more.

The cabin heater in a Tesla model 3 has orange high powered cables running to the heater unit, they are behind a removable trim panel on the drivers side.
These can be clearly seen when removing that trim, in order to replace the cabin filters.
I would imagine the ZS EV has some thing very similar suppling the heater element.
I have an idea the power maybe being supplied via the inverter.
May not be 450 volts, but it certainly pulling a big draw from some where !.
You only have to see the effect on the range, when the heater is cranked to MAX to know the power being pulled is high.
Not the type of load you would expect a standard 12 volt battery to be even CLOSE to delivering.
Fan blower motor - Yes.
Heater core element - No.
Pure guess work on my part here folks.
 
Have you seen the size of the AC compressor. IIRC, it's that large casing on the passenger side end of the motor/transmission, under the 12v. I reckon its a HV AC motor.
Edit: it does have an orange (HV ?) cable going to it, from the inverter.

Here is two captured images of the Tesla model 3 heater unit inside of the car.
One clearly shows the orange high voltage cables running to the heater.
In the second shot, you can see the "sub title" info that refers to these cables as :-
HV cables.

Good points. I’ve noticed that by just switching on the fan with no aircon or heat the mileage can drop by 15-20miles - surely this is not due to a drain on the HV? As far as having HV cables supplying some components, anyone working on their car needs bear this in mind and to be very careful!
