Aircon pump squeak / chirp.

Pump on my car has suddenly become noisy as hell after a mere 200 miles, squeak can be heard quite a distance from the car, anyone else had the same issue ?
If you put your hand on the pump when running there's a vibration in time with the chirp, not sure it's long for this world
The oil leak has begun at the other end so I guess I'll be killing 2 birds with one stone when I give them a bell after Christmas:rolleyes:

It's likely the compressor/pump - is it like a squeaking noise whose frequency (and loudness) is proportional to how hard the AC is working?

Mine's done that from new ... I raised it early days with the dealer and they reported that it was normal. If it happens to fail then I'll refer them back to their early days statement and say "I told you so, now fix it". :)

Others have had their dealer regas the unit with the correct level and type of lubricant, which apparently resolved the issue.
Yes. Also the AC performance is good. I have an appointment at the dealer so i want to know if its normal.

Check this thread out - it's all in there.

That image makes clear the type of oil to use:

So it would appear that both PAG 46 and PAG 100 are both wrong.

Also, when I first looked at the image I read it as POE required with 150g grams but on quick reflection no one would measure a liquid in grams and sure enough there is a POE 150 oil grade. So if the pump OEM is to believed the correct oil would be POE 150, trouble is that you’re not supposed to mix PAG and POE oils as it results in a jelly. Refer:

So what now MG?

Just to clarify weighing of liquids - it's a more precise method than by volume as volume varies depending on both temperature and the liquids reaction to temperature changes. As A/C fluids are designed to change state from liquid to gas to enable the cooling effect it will be pretty severe in this case. You can't always easily measure the specific gravity of a fluid easily to give you the conversion rate either.

Various examples spring to mind, you mix resin and hardener by weight, aviation fuel is delivered by the bowser in volume then converted to kg/lbs as the specific gravity of the fuel is measured - it's normally around 0.79 with 1 litre of water being 1kg so that has an SG of 1.

Mine was still making a racket up to the day I sold it, I could even feel vibrations through my steering wheel when the a/c was running.

By comparison my E-Golf a/c is completely silent, you have to pop the bonnet up just to have a chance of hearing it. Also no stupid contactors clunking in and out in when opening doors in the E-Golf.

Looking back the MG4 really was quite a noisy electric car ?
