Hi guys,

Just installed my new dashcam from AliExpress today. What better to go on a Chinese car then a genuine Chinese dashcam.

The one I ordered is specifically for the MG4 (Mulan in china). I’m really happy with it and thought I’d share some pictures.

Just make sure when you look for one to select the right steering side since you englisch folks all drive on the wrong side of the road,

Greetings,

Danny

Nope, not joking. The mirror mount is either on the left or right side of the window on the MG4. It’snot in the middle. It’s a different type depending if your car is a left or right hand drive.

This is the one for a right hand drive.

And one for a left hand drive

Good enough. I bought the 4k one and I don’t think it’s 4k. But the colors, resolution and framerate are good enough in my perception.

Here is a short video.

Oh yeah that looks good enough for what you need it for.

I’ve read once, years ago, that generally Chinese HD and 4K aren’t the same resolutions they denote in “the west”. I’ve got some wildlife trap cameras and you can tell the difference between the Chinese HD and the US HD, but like you said, it’s more about it being fit for purpose.

I don't think there should be a differance. I mean 4k means 4000 pixels per inch. But one can always find ways around it to make it sound like 4k

It's just false advertisement, It' just not so bad ik you know the advertisement is false and but still want the product. After checking, the camera uses a Sony FSM-IMX335 camera sensor.

Pixel Size 2 x 2 µm Max. Resolution 5 Mpx / 2592 x 1944 px. So deffinitly not 4k!. A 4K resolution camera is a camera capable of recording video at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. I still don't think it's bad so i'm still happy with it as I mentioned earlier.

Sorry, but it doesn't. 4K is generally accepted as representing 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution ... the pixels per inch depends on the size of the screen. :)

I saw this one but i had one major question, does it cancel your ACC (cruise control) as I understand from the pictures, it will replace the part that there is already a camera..

I don’t think this plastic casing requires any removal apart from the OE fitted plastic cover. So it shouldn’t interfere with ACC or any other functions that use the windshield camera. As this camera is stuck to the window and not held in place by the plastic cover as far as I know.

Hi. I've been waiting for a RHD version of these to be produced and am yet to see any. The link you attached stating it is for RHD, is actually for a LHD. In fact on the 7th image in red text it says (doesn't fit right hand drive).

Still searching.

Thanks for that. I was thinking of buying the "RHD" model! Wonder if it can be 3D printed?

The range and prices of dashcams is astounding. I saw one on Aliexpress for $AUD20.00. Reviews were all positive so I splashed out. It works an absolute treat. It is quite small, and unobtrusive & I positioned it to the left of top console. It has a 140 deg field or view so it doesn't matter where you put it on the windscreen.

I connected it to a switched fuse so it only works when the car is on & provides 1 to 5 minute continuous videos in 1080p to a 32gb SD card I had spare. Over writes when the card fills up. I just connect the phone via WiFi to look at anything or download it or pop the SD card & copy it to a hard drive.

Why anyone wants 4k dashcam footage is beyond me. The 1080p quality when displayed on my 28 inch monitor PC is more than adequate. Also why anyone spends hundreds and even thousand on these things is also a mystery to me.

First, excuse my English. I am Spanish and I speak very little English, so I am using Google Translate.

One question: if the car is off, and it is hit, does the dashcam activate?

Thank you

No mine doesn't. The power supply to the dashcam is from a switched fuse that is only powered on if the car is turned on. Google translate has worked perfectly for your simple question.
Thank you very much. I understand then that I should take the dashcam cables to the fuse box, as indicated in some youtube videos.

Thanks

My dashcam has a parking mode which gets triggered by movement, and then records for a minute. It would also record when the G-sensors or microphone notice an impact.

The downside is that when I’m parked up for a few days at home, or even a few hours at a busy place, the dashcam stops recording to protect the 12v battery. And I think even an impact won’t get the cam recording then.
