When I took the wife’s HS PHEV in for its first service in March, I asked them to check the drivetrain as a vibration started at 65mph and stayed until speed dropped. They said they checked and found nothing. Well, we don’t do lots of distance work (reason for PHEV), so the problem seldom occurred.
Took it to local tyre shop last week for a balance (had to be done before confronting MG again). “Come and look at this” they said as they balanced the front nearside tyre. It’s oval! Yep, our wonderful Kent “A” & “B” roads with the “moon surface” finish, had bent one of our wheels. Option 1, new wheel. Option 2, used wheel off E-Bay. Option 3, get it fixed (3 days off road as no spare wheel and £60).
Option 1, HOW MUCH??!!?, Option 2, many to chose from £99 to £150, but most had signs of wear - so option 3 it is. I knkw our roads are bad, but means the alloys may be a little softer than we would hope as there was no apparent tyre damage and no cracks in the alloy.
Moral of the story, start weaving and avoid the pot holes!!
