I've had problems with Android Auto dropping out on my PFL 5 LR . It connects to the infotainment system and suddenly drops out mid journey . I've tried different USB cables always with the same result . The inbuilt SatNav is useless ( kind description )
Any ideas

I eventually bought a wireless AA box (carlinkit 4) and since then things have been much better.

Never had a problem with my phone’s original cable but when I have used an aftermarket one I have experienced the same problem. Also make sure you have updated the AA/Google Maps apps as that can cause issues as well.

AA and Maps are up to date . Not tried it with my phone's original cable , I'll give that a try

I tried several cables with mine to no avail. Added the AA wireless adaptor and that works pretty faultlessly although its not without the odd foible.

First i used to connect my phone by wire, a good quality cable is a must.

Then i bough a AA Wireless unit, worked great but disconnected and reconnected at 1 island on the way to and from work - 5 days a week.
Strange signal causing it to do this? God knows.

Currently using a Eonon , very similar to the AA Wireless with the addition of being able to play Netflix and Youtube. I've only tried running these 2 apps whilst parked on my drive.
You have to hotspot your phone for the data connection, Android Auto and Apple Car Play work using bluetooth so you have to manually switch.

I got this as i thought 1 day when charging somewhere with no services/toilets etc, then it could help kill the time.
It was from Ebay Eonon check the page for a discount code as i ended up paying £55 ish, compared to £89 for AA Wireless when it come out.
It also has a microsd memory card slot if you want to add music/films.
It will save using the other usb slot.

I gave up on Android Auto, it's so flaky and clunky I hated it. Now I have fitted a 10" android tablet for sat nav and use simple USB for audio.

Historically wired AA has always been problematic - there are huge threads directed at google and AA instability on every car forum. I got so fed up I switched to an iPhone and wired CarPlay years ago. In FL5 wired CarPlay also drops occasionally - not seen this in any other car I’ve driven!

I now use a carlinkit 5 and way better than wired. Does AA for the other half faultlessly. Occasionally get problem getting initial CarPlay connection but otherwise well worth the investment.

I don't travel as much as I used to and ,therefore , don't need to rely on AA as much as I used to . Investin in wireless AA adapter unit doesn't feel worthwhile for me .
Yesterday I followed an earlier suggestion to use the USB cable that was supplied with my phone on a round trip to Cardiff ( about 45 miles) and AA didn't drop out once . So maybe that's the solution .
I'll probably use AA on all my journeys to test it from now on

I am testing a new MG ONE, not even in the list of cars here...this is weird. I tried to make Android Auto work, with no success, tried multiple cables, until finally one worked for a few minutes, disconnected, and never worked again. Then I realized there is a variety of USB connectors colors, and been told the BLACK and the BLUE are the ones with enough speed for Android Auto to work. Since this is a make or break issue for me to buy this car, what I did based on some youtube experiences was to buy an USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 cable to USB-C. Important, that´s the cable with the BLUE CONNECTOR. So far, I have had no other problems during my testing, Android Auto works great. I also tested a cable with a black connector, and the results were variable. So, the BLUE CONNECTOR is the one you want.

Any chance of a photograph in situ... my usb cable works fine but I'd certainly like to have the cable away and the lid shut... it's bugged me as long as I've had the car...

I had AA disconnects, usually from a small bump. I've taken to giving the cable a twist to keep some tension in the connection. This works for me.

Hi, Android Auto was working fine until about three weeks ago when it started dropping out randomly during a journey. It seemed to be associated with an update of the Android Operating system on my phone. There is another stream in this forum where this was mentioned and looking through the internet it seems to be a common problem not specifically associated with MG's, makes of phone or mobile providers. As I am retired I had the time to do a series of tests. First the USB cable, swapped out, no difference, second with my daughters phone, did the same thing. So that reduced the likelihood that it was hardware. Then I took both Maps and Android Auto back to the factory install versions. no difference. So I let all the updates back so both were current, no difference. Then I looked at the mobile signal and here was the main clue. When the mobile signal drops completely from the provider, that's when it kicks out. If it just swaps from 4G to 5G or 4G to E then it still works. So I tried switching off mobile data and switching the SIM off, obviously Android Auto was now off line, but it remained stable through area with no mobile signal. I also tried Airplane Mode and turning the WiFi off but none of these triggered the drop out. Only the dynamic loss of the mobile signal triggered it. I sent a rant in to Google via the Android Auto review on Google Play and also through the Android Auto feedback option. Although I have had no response other than the "bot" response to go to the app community, I noticed as of yesterday that it didn't drop at all and today it worked fine through two other dead zones. Unfortunately, I didn't log the version numbers of the software prior to this and I have auto update on. But it seems like they may have fixed the issue. Hope this helps.
