Hi,

Charger: Zappi V2
Zappi Scheduled Charging from the MyEnergi App, schedule is 2am to 5am 7 days a week.
Nothing setup in the MG4 or iSmart
On Octopus Flux Tariff so there is no automation or Octopus taking over charging like on Intelligent Go etc.

So, to charge I just plug the MG4 into the Zappi in the evening when needing to charge up and when 2am comes around it starts and at 5am it stops imediatly. Been working like this for a year.
I have just started to notice this over the last week that the charging using a Zappi is going past it's scheduled end time and ending sometime between 5:30am and 6:30am, during this overun the power drops to about 2kW from the 7kW that is has been using for the previous 3 hours.

Now, this is not balancing happening etc as today the car was at 39% and is at 73% when finished.

So, like I said previously at 5am it would stop dead charging, now at 5am it continues for a random amount time (max 1.5 hours) at or around 2kw).

Now I would like to stop this from happening as for those hours after 5am I am being charged more per kWh by Octopus.

I have tried putting a post on the MyEnergi Zappi forum however the login process is broken as it presents you the login box and halfway through typing the logon details in the page the page refreshes every couple of seconds thus keeps going round and round so thought I would post here to see if anyone here notice this on their setups or have this happen in the past.

Hi, do you have a house battery?
Try setting the threshold higher in the Zappi menu using the front buttons.

Check your settings. This is how mine is setup, and it always works, unless I do something wrong when plugging the car in;

Edit to say mine’s an SE but the settings should work the same way.

Try turning the Zappi off at the main fuse box for a few minutes so it reboots.
You can achieve the same thing by holding the menu button on the Zappi for a few seconds. Saves flicking on and off at CU

I have a house battery (18kWh)
My Eco+ setting is at 90%

I have tried turning the zappi off last week but did not make a difference.

The last time I did 100% balance was 2 weeks ago. This overrun was happening before and also after the 100%

Thanks All

Sounds to me like your battery sees a load and continues charging.. hence the lower power. You can stop this in the zapping settings somewhere. I use intelligent go so a bit out of touch with drilling down in the zappi.
Have you tried using the cars scheduling? That may work..

Hi STG..

Can you confirm the charging mode is set to ECO+. It is easy to change this setting by touching the buttons on the front of the unit.

Of course you can check the mode in the [Charge Mode] on the screen.. And of course you know you can check the timer setting [MENU] (left button) then select [BOOST TIMER]

If these are set as they should be - and we know it's not the car. Then it must be something to do with your Flux Tariff... I'd check with them

Sincerely and in good faith
Martin

I have a Zappi plus solar and battery, but also an Air Source Heat Pump too. This means that by far the best Octopus tariff for us is ‘Cosy’ with its three cheap slots, presently at 13p, and with standard export at constant 15p. And with a low UK charging need, tend to pick and choose charging as and when needed. I therefore set the Zappi to Manual/Fast, and only ever use the car app charging schedule facility (about the only thing it is useful for) to charge when the battery is also forced to charge, at cheapest grid price slots, as otherwise I find everything else starts fighting for control of the car!

Just another thought ... Have you signed-up to any of the Givback or Myenergi schemes (ignoring Octoplus which is manually operated) as these can mess about with your battery charging and car control settings whilst in discharging mode - albeit only ocasionally, and should reset back to your settings afterwards?

Have you considered Intelligent Go? You can often get extended cheap 7p rate in the afternoon and late evening ie after 8pm in addition to the guaranteed cheap period of 23.30 to 05.30..

We use EDF and been given a general low rate, but cheapest is between midnight and 5am, so as we're OAPs we never charge outside that overnight cheap zone. I have an MG4 XP and my Wife a FIAT 500e, both of which are set on the cars info screen with no probs over the past 12 months and it has saved us a fortune since we ditched our dino juice motors.

Thank you for pointing out that you need the Zappi App to be on Eco+

Thank you. How much does it cost to charge per week please and for how many miles?

Great thanks. I have a Zappi charging my MG4SE LR. Delighted with this combination in my first week! Can someone please help me? I have set up boost timer schedule as per youtube! Does it need to be on Eco+ Eco? I don't have Solar or Battery.
Secondly, I see on the car's entertainment screen, you can set the schedule there as well. What is the best most reliable of these 2 methods?

It depends on which Octopus tariff you are on - assuming that you are not on Intelligent I would have thought that the Zappi would be preferable. At least then if you are away from home and need to AC charge you don't have to remember to disable any schedules in the car.

Hi John

(1) "Does it need to be on Eco+ or Eco?" - It needs to be in ECO+
(2) "car's schedule" You can use the Cars to schedule the charge, in that case set the Zappi to FAST

You can also set the car to stop charging at a particular percent state of charge - if you don't do more than 100 in a day this can be set to max out at 80% which is supposed to be best for the battery.

(Other post) "How much does it cost to charge per week" is the proverbial how long is a piece of string. But the beauty of your zappi is you can check and keep a record of the kWh's sent to the car then multiply by the tariff charge and that will tell you the cost per day/week/month/year etc.. This will also help to show that around 10% of the electricity sent to the car never makes it to the battery.

In good faith
Martin

PS Do you have a Zappi manual?

I'm not on Octopus (yet) . British Gas 7.9p from 00:00 to 05:00
