I've just moved all the breakdown stuff from the old ICE car into the MG5. I'm wondering If there are any EV specific things I should be carrying / don't ever need again?

I've got a pair of jumper cables and a jump starter battery pack (worked really well on the old car a few times) - are either of these still necessary?

I've seen other posts about a 10mm wrench to disconnect the battery - just this one is sufficient?

Portable batteries for emergencies? I've seen some on modular battery systems on Aliexpress

Jump leads/jump pack will help in the event the 12v battery becomes drained and you're unable to engage the HV battery. People have got stuck at a charger with a full HV but had drained the 12v listening to the radio with the heater on for an hour.

My understanding was on the newer models software automatically kicked in and charged the 12v from the HV if it was low, not sure I wouldn't want a backup option.

Theres a cover to remove to access the manual charge port release cable. Looks like you can undo it with a coin, but a screwdriver may be in order.

You won't need any of that stuff MGs never breakdown ?

That ZipCharge thing looks good, but I don't think you'll be able to leave it hanging around like that and expect it to be there when you get back. Also, I red an article recently that the theft of charging cables is on the increase too, scum are selling them on or for the scrap metal value

Take a look at ZipCharge. Its not out yet. Possibly later this year. It promises to be like a 'powerbank' for EVs and not costing 1000s.
Find someone with a new Hyundai or Kia. They have V2L to recharge you. The new MG ZS EV has it as well. I think recent Tesla EVs may have quietly got it as well.

When I bought my 5SR it came with 4 years AA cover, so don’t carry any tools at all now, apart from those already in the boot when purchased.
.

It's worth carrying a flathead screwdriver (with a small enough tip) that allows you to unscrew the clips on the front cover tray on the mg5.

The manual charging cable release is under this tray and inaccessible without remove. The slot in the screw head is quite narrow, to the point a key/coin are unlikely to fit. Others have fitted a string to the emergency pull to allow the to operate it without removing the cover.

I have found I need to remove debris and water under the panel in the lower inside wings whenever I wash my car so I have removed these clips and now the panel is just held in place by the Velcro strips on each side. My charging cable sits on top and I have the string fixed to the emergency release for the charging plug. I have had no problem at all with this over the month or so since I removed them.

Carry some odds and sods in the boot and you will never need them. Leave them at home and you will need what you haven’t got Sod’s law or that Murphy gezzer.?
