This may sound like a daft question, but my friend has an EV (Polestar 2), and he has been told specifically he is not allowed to jack it up.

I need to jack my MG4 up because I have a flat tyre, the car is at home, and I want to take wheel off, so I can take it to tyre place to get a replacement.

Yes. There's a mark on the sill, a triangle.
Put the jack on the seam underneath opposite the Triangle.

The only daft question is one that never gets asked TBH 👍.
What does sound a bit “Daft” is the info given to your friend ref his Polestar ?.
It sounds a bit odd to me I have to say.
Say.,,, Your friend suffers a puncture and the gloop their provide is clearly not going to fix a tear in the side wall for example.
Are they seriously expecting a recovery service to arrive and either pick up the drive wheel, or send a flat bed truck and then take it to the dealer to be put on a ramp JUST to remove the affected wheel, then tie up a ramp until the tyre can get replaced, surely not.
If you go to any tyre shop with a problem, they are going to naturally going to trolley jack the affected corner and then remove the wheel 🛞.
It all sounds a bit fare fetched to me and a right FAFF if it is true.

Whoever told your friend that didn't read the owners manual

The thing with a lot of cars now is you can't jack up using an oldschool trolley jack as you'll likely cause damage

The scissor jack provided is ok or you can buy rubber jack blocks for a trolley jack

With a Tesla they even say to use rubber blocks with a ramp as to not apply pressure in the wrong places

You need this.

No you do.

Click Me.....Proper Jacking / Lifting points of MG4

The Seams are made of ☆chocolate.

Your putting 450kg into a tiny area on a scissor jack and you will damage the Seam if you do it wrong.

With a large rubber pad you are supporting not only the Seam, but the Sill either side of it.

☆Without doubt the most concern I've ever had jacking up a vehicle.

When I took mine to get a slow puncture fixed, the ‘technician’ doing it initially didn’t push the jack in far enough and I could see the plastic flexing - needless to say I haven’t been back there since

so that instruction may have come from lease company.
That will explain it. I have only ever had one lease car (this one) and my experience so far is, you do anything outside the lease terms and they will sting you. BUT the lease company can treat the car as poorly as they want and you just have to live with it

New tyre fitted this morning, no problems with jacking the car up. Went for a Bridgestone Turanza all season tyre. Already noticed car is quieter, and less vibration at motorway speeds. Now it's back on the road will return to tyre shop next week (after pay day) to replace the other side as getting near to wear indicators
