Auto hold function

Pre-pandemic, in the three years previously I had my Leaf, I always noticed on long journeys from Derbyshire to Edinburgh or the south coast I was much less tired than in ICE cars before. The reduced noise has a very positive effect

Totally agree. I've had some old ICE cars that were deafening and it's quite distressing on a long journey - I used or wear ear plugs or in-earphones. The silence is lovely in the MG.

For me I think it's about vibration. A diesel engine running is lots of explosions in quick succession, shaking you around for hours. EVs are a much nicer place to be.

Is this Auto Hold function supposed to hold the brakes on indefinitely or just for a certain length of time ?
I tried it for the first time a couple of days ago, sat at traffic lights and it suddenly let go and started creeping forward.

Back to my old Passat. It would sit with auto hold holding for a few minutes, then you'd hear the faint whirrrr from the back as the handbrake kicked in. I didn't notice any difference in smoothness at pulloff. Both auto hold and the leccy handbrake make the MG auto hold seem somewhat agricultural

Indefinitely AFAIK - sometimes it doesn't activate when you've stopped though - check on the display that the green Handbrake light is on. If not you can push the brake pedal a little and it should activate. Did it actually deactivate by itself after definitely being engaged? Not helpful if so!

It must have activated as it held the car for longer than the hill start assist does, although I'll check for the green light next time. I was wondering if I had accidentally touched the brake pedal again when it let go and if that cancels it, I definitely didn't touch the accelerator pedal.

Not sure about pressing the brake again - maybe that does de-activate it! I'll experiment in an empty car park one day...

Owners manual pgs 167-169. "
In some circumstances such as releasing the seat belt,
switching off the power system or remaining static for a
length of time it will result in the vehicle exiting the auto
hold Parking state. At this time the electronic parking
brake will remain applied and will require the driver to
release it using the switch"
Note: With the brake pedal pressed, operating the
switch to turn the auto hold off, the system will NOT
apply the parking brake

My ZS will disengage the auto hold after a short time, allowing the car to move forward. Caught me out three times while waiting for traffic lights to go green, as a result I won't use it anymore. I put it down to just another MG ZS quirk that one has to get used to and not use. ?

Are you sure it was engaged? If it’s doing that you should go back to the dealer and get it sorted.

Yeah mine never disengages once switched on. It also seems to depend how long it is since the last journey whether the car remembers to leave it switched on or not when starting the car again.

My ZS auto-hold button has stayed in the engaged position since I’ve had it - never changed. Perhaps the 5 is different.

That's exactly what happened with my ZS. (y)
