Balancing the narrative of good and bad

I really do feel for those posting about continual problems with their MG3 hybrid cars but I feel we need a post for all of those who are loving their cars and enjoying the experience.

I count myself as fortunate to not have had any issues in 2 months of ownership and I am absolutely gelling with my car. Yes there is a period of time that needs to be spent learning all the different warning beeps and turning them down to a reasonable level, but that's the same with any new car that has all the driver assistance systems required under new regulations.
I have a few niggles, but I have had with every car I have ever owned and many have been far more serious. I idon't like the way i have to go through menus to get to some options such as heating controls.
Yes there are some idiosyncratic behaviours on the drive train, which I expect will get sorted with firmware updates.
Overall though I agree with the majority of reviewers that it is a good car and suited for its market of city runabout with the ability to do longer journeys when needed. It's comfortable to drive and generally quiet on the road.
It is always the case that many many people who don't have problems never comment so how about a few happy owners join me in saying good things?
I have had mine since July and agree it’s a lovely little car and I live in a rural location and it’s great fun to drive around the lanes
I am very happy with it to date.

I agree Tim.Collected my White MG3 Hybrid SE on 31 July.Yes you did read that correctly an SE.Went dow to get it from the dealer in Tunbridge Wells. That was the best deal at the time and it came in white.Didn't see the point getting the Trophy.Great car.Very fast.No problems. Also had a Honda Jazz
like Ann which went like a snail.Got more confidense with the MG when overtaking.Been looking around for wind deflectors for the front doors. That's the only problem I have as i like to have my window slightly open but get a force 10 gail come in and get rain coming in.

I had an MG HS for 6 months prior to buying MG3 I did not like driving it. The MG3 I really enjoy going out in it and the driving experience, appart from when engine starts screaming at me when it thinks it needs to drop gears which hopefully will be fixed by software updates.
I have never really use any type of cruise control, never have it on so I have never experienced sudden braking and all that seems to be involved with it.
Havn't had that problem with the engine screaming.Infact can hardly hear it.Also haven't used the cruise control.Doesn't appeal to me at all

Hello 'Tim19', agree entirely with you on this issue. I have had my MG3+Hybrid Trophy for 5 months and travelled 4000 miles in it. No problems at all. I still smile at the sheer 'quirkiness' of this car and the way that it seems to re-set my settings from one day to the next. I found this very annoying to start with but smile now and simply go through the menus and reset it again as to how I want things and not how the car wants things. Does this make sense? Hopefully. I don't see it as a city runabout as it is capable of good distances without causing me too much discomfort. I have been spoilt in the past with an Audi Q5 and an Audi A6 and a Mercedes E Class all of which were supremely comfortable but all had so many problems and issues that I fancied a complete change. Personally, so far I love the MG3 and what a good car for the price? I do smile when the 'expert-reviewers' find the smallest things to criticise. A cheap plastic knick-knack' tray for example. So what? I think that the only gripe I have is that when I first got this car it played my favourite music tracks on my memory sticks. Now; doesn't want to know. No idea why. Simply won't play my music. All in all; a great vehicle that has been (touch wood) 100% reliable. What I really like as an old pensioner is the fuel consumption. I am not one of those dawdling types cruising along at 35 in a 60 limit. I like to maintain the speed limits. But; 64.8mpg? Pretty good fuel consumption in my book! Well done MG3! So; well said Tim, I agree with you!

Have had mine over 5 months now and dead easy to drive but still getting to grips with the handling, admittedly still with a low mileage - no reliability issues all good so far.
Nice to get back in the old MGF and chuck that about though - easy to do your own service too.
(Still smarting from the ridiculous service pricing down here in the south)

I picked up my car from Tristram MG Auckland on Sept 1, and for me it's 95% joy, and 5% fixed by an easy tweak or two. I love driving 22km on a litre of 95. Using the smart features it offers, I have pretty much delegated everything except steering, but fear not - I watch iSmart operations constantly. From my seat my MG3 Essence is quiet, really comfortable, and has very nice road manners and a great stereo. Nobody has spotted when I'm calling hands-free. Passengers are surprised.

What's the 5% that might make it even better? The setup software needs a tweak enabling me to save my default settings rather than set them up every start, but that might upset the EU. The back parcel shelf could do with an acoustic layer, but spreading out the car rug I always carry reduces cabin noise from there really well. And using my rug doesn't boost the price. A few extra storage places would be handy, but again - that would raise the cost. For the next model, maybe the Designers could move the orange 'doors locked' indicator light somewhere else so it doesn't reflect in the driver's window about 5cm below the orange blind spot alert in that side's rear view mirror; that won't cost anything.

My previous ride was from 2004 and this is a 2024, so I've been catching up on 20 years' auto innovation. Reading the manual a few times was very worthwhile. I'm amazed at what $NZ32k gives me. All the cars I've owned have cost money and lost value, and I expect this one will maintain that fine motoring tradition. After 4,500km, I am a very happy customer. My sympathies to those not having the same experience - I do hope things come right soon.

Took me some time to master all of the new settings but overall I love the car, the quietness of pulling away and the really good acceleration, well worth the money

Every car I have owned, since owner forums have been thing, I have joined that forum. They are all a mix of good and bad, dependent on that owner's experience. The car that had more negatives than any other, was Jaguar, and the S-Type we had. It went after a £1k plus repair bill and seeing so many other owners with problems has put me off that brand.

It would seem odd that I bought an MG, since it has not done so well in reliability surveys. But, I have owned 3 Fiats, which also don't do great and as cars they have been fine. My problems were with the dealers and their service. Plus, Fiats are cheaper to repair, born out by a good Carwow manufacturer reliability review based on number of repairs and costs. It is just your luck if you get a good or bad car. For me how well the dealer does is just as important and with MG, so far so good.

I think that with all the safety devices and driving aids being fitted, there is a new level to reliability, as cars become more complex. The more there is, the more that can go wrong.

That quirkiness and smiles created was born out in the Carwow review. Mat Watson clearly enjoyed reviewing the car. I enjoy it like I have enjoyed my Fiats. The Italians have a way of making even the mundane fun.

The dealer lent us a car the same as ours for the day while they did a few jobs on ours, 6 months newer than ours, a totally different car to drive, for a start the heater actually warmed my feet on the drivers side on low temp and fan speed, it didn't mist up suddenly like ours does, other than that it was just as bad, the road noise at even 50mph is just terrible, 70 and you cannot talk you have to shout, I'm thinking of getting some of that sound insulation matting.
