I have just got a pod point solo 3 7kw charger installed, will I be to equalise the battery cells using it

I have had the MG ZS EV long range for two months and only charged to 80%, all but three charges have been on a free Tesco pod point charger. The other three on a local InstaVolt charger.

I was expecting to plug into the home setup and it automatically equalise the cells. But it appears to have fully charged then stopped charging.

Any advice would be welcome

Is battery equalisation charging to 100% and then beyond for some time? How often should this be undertaken, once a month?

Although I have an MG5, the information is the same. I know some people who use their car a lot charge nightly, I do very few miles so do a combination of AC and DC partial charges whenever I'm out and about (as it's free where I live). But, I do tend to plug in at home and leave for 8 or more hours overnight once a month before a 150 mile round trip to visit family - that's enough time to fully charge to 100% (usually only about 3 hours or so needed) and more than enough time to balance. I've only done 3.5k miles and don't think it takes very long to balance from what I've seen on charger graphs / smart meter.

Yes and yes.
Depending on if you you use rapids a lot can to a few hours bit only between 300-500w on a granny or 7 kWh EVSE

Thank you. I will mainly be charging at home from a wall box. I am guessing then that once a month the battery likes to be charged to 100% and beyond in order to equalise.

The only advise is not to leave the battery charged to 100% (or sub 20%?) for a prolonged period of time - how long is prolonged? No idea - but I tend to only charge to 100% & balance when I'm planning on driving the next day - hence why monthly. Otherwise, I tend to be in the 50% to 80% range.

If you're driving a lot, charging to 100% and leaving to balance more often shouldn't adversely affect the battery. Cleevely EV charge their cars fully each night and still have 100% SOH after lots of miles.

MG recommended full charge & battery balancing every 6 weeks or so on a 'slow charger', ie, up to home 7Kw. In my experience, this firstly charges to 100% - * & then takes another 2 hours to balance*. You should be able to montior that through the app or light readout on the front of the car. If LR, from a 20% charge base that could take quite a long time. See also Update information

Having said this, many owners simply charge to full as is best convenient for them & without adverse effects it would seem. There is also a considerable warranty period on the battery if if there were any issues, this would be picked up at servicing.
