Hi all,hope all is good,
Just a quick one,had a car accident on motorway, drink driver hit my MG4 long range 23 plate with only 4500 miles, smashed into my off side rear corner, wrecked the suspension, wheel, inner and outer 1/4 panel, rear passenger door, bumper, just looking at costs for repairing as i have been informed he had no insurance,so i have to claim on my insurance, pay my eccess etc,his car rolled over, wish there was a law that they have to pay.
Just looking at how much it will cost as it is on finnace if written off.roll on 25

Sorry to hear this. The positive from this is that you are still alive. I had a friend killed by a drink driver many many years ago. When you took out the finance for the car, did you get gap insurance? If it's written off, gap insurance should cover the remaining finance on the car.

Repair cost, if using the insurance company authorised repairer, in my experience it would cost more than going to somewhere yourself and stating you are paying for the repairs (sometimes it can be more economical to pay for repairs yourself) That said the amount of damage would suggest the repair cost will be pretty high and may not be something you can cover yourself.

Sorry to hear about your friend, very true lucky to be alive, had the wife and one daughter in car at the time, lucky she was on the passenger side, still got some bruising etc,i dont think i had gap insurance will have to check finance paperwork, just looking at both options at the mo.at least he got arrested.
Look forward to 25,happy new year

Thousands I would have thought.

Just let your insurance deal with it.

Sadly for you, you will be in for months of waiting around.

Let's hope the battery is damaged then they will likely write it off.

That will undoubtedly be the quickest way for you to get back on the road.

You will know if you had GAP as it would have been you that set up the policy at the start of your agreement.

If you are fully comp then you will be covered up to the market value of the car.

Repairs could take months so don't get yourself on the hook for a hire car unless your insurance are supplying it to you.

Double and triple check whether this is free to you if you're offered it, or else you could be looking at thousands in hire charges that you will be liable for.

Here is one sad story of months of delay and faff.

Most insurance companies offer a "uninsured driver promise" which is run by MIB (Motor Insurers' Bureau), plus if you have gap insurance you should get back the full value of the car. Best thing to do is leave it with your insurer, they may just get you another new car if one is in stock.

I'm fairly confident, by the damage description, that they will write it off. They wrote off the one I bought as a repairable write off and it had what looked like a slight hit from the rear. When I stripped it down, the floor where the spare tyre would normally go is wringed up, requiring a specialist mob with the jigs to pull it back out to factory specs ......

The chances are your vehicle with that much damage has twisted the body shell as well ...... then the panels have to be cut off via the spot welds. Then there is the chance it broke the charger/V2L box under the rear, vulnerable if the bumper was damaged. If it got as far as the inner quarter panel and door, the motor will also be suspect.

Parts alone will be eye watering when it comes to pricing, waiting for the parts will be more than the insurance is willing to pay for the replacement hire car, so, even if it isn't structurally written off, it will be a financial write off .......

Damage isn't always why a car is written off. It can also be affected by how long it takes to get parts and repair the car. MG don't seem great at parts availability. This can lead to expensive delays and extended car replacement hire. So they category N it, pay you off, and it goes to Copart where it's auctioned off.

If you have a PCP or loan it's quite important to have GAP insurance as the car is likely not worth the amount owed on the contract and you can be out of pocket.

Other drivers fault or not, making a claim will affect your policy anyway.

If the other bloke has any assets, you can still take him to court for any losses as a civil claim. Any gap cost and excess plus a hirer car while your vehicle is put through the process and you get paid out is all claimable ...... but only worth pursuing if he has anything worth selling or money in the bank .... if he is unemployed and couch surfing .... just be thankful you had insurance .....
