Hi.

I bought a used MG5 approximately 5 weeks ago. I’ve just realised that the boot is permanently unlocked even when car is locked from the fob. The alarm does not sound if I manually open the boot with the car locked from the key fob.

I keep some expensive equipment in the boot for my job and obviously need this to be secure.

Has anybody else experienced this?

Is this a settings issue?

Thanks

Solution
It opens automatically if you have the key with you.
Try it with the key well away from the car and you'll find it's locked.
I keep my keys in a faraday box, where the car can't "speak" to the keys! If your keys are in range, someone can open the boot.
A tin box would do as well. You do know that the only fob that actually talks to the car is the type that automatically unlocks it when you are close. Most fobs you need to physically flip a button either on car door or the fob itself to unlock. These fobs are not affected by someone hijacking the signal to open the car and the range to open the car is very small. Also in my 5FL if you leave keys in the car it refuses to lock and displays a "take your keys" warning on the drivers display

You should all be aware that if you do lock you keys in the car, the car then assumes you did it deliberately and deactivates the that set of keys until the other set is used to unlock the car. Sensible really as if anyone breaks into car to find keys they can't use them to start the vehicle.

You need to be a bit careful with your keys. This behaviour makes it quite easy to open the boot throw your coat in the back and realise too late that your keys were in your coat.
Your keys are still close enough to be able to open the boot.

Similar thing happened to me. I had just arrived back from a holiday and opened the boot chucked in my suitcase and rucksack and closed the boot then realised that my keys were in the rucksack. Son was able to open the car 35miles away using my phone which I had not taken with me on holiday.
