Boot space modification

So today I've been a busy bee making a raised boot floor to keep the boot nice and tidy.

It raises the boot floor by about 4½ inches, it gives me useful hidden storage space for all my boot stuff, it's easier to lift shopping bags etc into, it does away with the difference in height when the back seat is folded down (boot floor is level with folded seat back), and it's strong enough to hold my heavy tool boxes when I need them.

Step one, framework made.


Step two, new floor base cut.


Step three, cut the mat to cover the base, this one is temporary till I get a new one, just a 2 inch lip to lift over now.


Step four, fill with stuff, and just lift up the new floor for access, but the boot appears empty because everything is hidden.

Not sure if you're serious Ann, but I really wouldn't want to get into making and selling them. I'll do some measurements and links to the materials I used from Jewson's and Wickes, if anybody wants to have a go themselves.

So for anybody who wants to have a go, these are the sizes and materials I used.

For the frame, I used 1" x 4" pse from Jewsons, 4" is deep enough to leave the final floor level at just below the boot lip.

These are the dimensions of my frame.


Then the floor is a sheet of 4ft x 2ft (12mm) mdf from Wickes, which will need to be cut and shaped to fit, I used the boot carpet as a template.

I then hinged the new floor to the back of the frame and stuck the carpet to the floor with double sided tape.

So you have the 12V battery and even more storage... under that compartment that you created ?
I would consider "changing" the way it's designed under the boot with the polystyrene stuff which takes too much volume and isn't optimized at all.

I've left the under-floor battery compartment alone, and I haven't stored anything in there, but I can still access it easily if I need to.

I just wish the boot lid went down to the floor so I didn't have to lift my scooter so bloody high.

Nowhere to put them Clive, I can lift it just about but the extra boot sill height kills most hatchbacks.
