Hi All, I have just come back from a day out with kids and wife at an animal sanctuary about 30 miles away. Trip out fine. I drove. On way back I was exhausted half way through journey so swapped with wife (who rarely drives it as it’s my commuting car). I dozed off. When we got back I woke up as she was reversing up our steepish drive and there was a noise from the brakes. Got out the car and they were smoking and very hot.

I thought with the electric handbrake it would be impossible to drive it with the brake on. It’s the only thing I can think of that would cause the brakes to heat up the way they did.

I think the drive settings were eco and 3.

Any thoughts?

Car is the Excellence. Pre face lift. 22 plate.

No idea sorry, might be they got stuck on? or your wife had her left foot on the pedal without realising it? Take it for a test drive to see if the brakes are still getting hot.

Best to do a controlled test drive. I find it useful to carry an IR Thermometer for stuff like this so you can measure the disk temperature precisely.

A possibility if she is not used to driving an automatic. (riding the clutch as was)
