Im looking at buying a secondhand MG5 having seen some good value ones recently, it’s so tempting given some of them have quite low mileage, I wondered if anyone has some top tips on what to look out for.
I know I want the Exclusive for the roof bars & extras like MG pilot & I guess check it’s service history or battery health?
much appreciate any replies.

Just had a look at my bonnet strut. It has a thick rubber protection tube on it (from new) very close to where yours is rusting. Also even without the tube it doesn't come near to any part of the car so unless the pooling is very deep it wouldn't get wet. I suggest that your strut may have been bent or the car may have been parked a lot on a steep slope which made the pool form?

Thanks for the replies DP, (great name BTW),I thought the same but it does sit slightly above & doesn't look bent, but it's pretty close, it wouldn't take much to pool, but under the bonnet was filthy with dirt so I think it must have been through a few stormy drives. Looks spotless now :)

Genius idea! Thank you, I'll do some rust killer first.
Am afraid the boot not closing well still persists, I might go to our local MG dealer & see how it should shut, something in it's sound it makes when it closes makes me think something is loose within the door.
Quite often the rattley sound is the number plate, it is on mine.
Also on the OBD/scanner app find the cell voltages. This will help with ascertaining the state of balance.
I could be wrong but if way out of balance this could reflect in the SOH. As a point of reference, some early ZS EVs had a BMS problem which didn't allow them to balance and the range gradually dropped in the same way a reduced SOH would cause, but more dramatically in the case of the BMS problem. It took months to get back to full health with balance charging.

I was just coming back to say this. Depending on how the app determines SOH, being out of balance could be the culprit rather than a permenant hit to overall health.

You can balance on a 7kw or granny charger I would suggest charging to 100%, balancing, driving it for 20-30% and then getting it back to 100% and balancing again.

I thought that the SOH only went down and didn't improve after a few attempts at a battery balance.
Depends on if it's calculating a SOH based on expected vs actual voltages/capacity or if its reading a SOH rating the BMS is presenting. I don't know which.

Ahh first thing I checked was the number plate , which was loose, it’s more does shut proply From time to time & doesn’t make a nice thud, the grease I put on has def helped.
I did find these voltages.
Battery Cell Max Voltage 4.03 v
Battery Cell Min Voltage 4 v

Balance doesn't look too bad. I presume that max/min is across all packs. You should be able to see all individual packs as well.

Many thanks Gomev, I couldn’t see individual packs using Car Scanner app free version, I tried to find other Apps people are using, can you tell me what app you’re using?

Using Car scanner too (paid for as it was really cheap at the time) but my OBD dongle is not working so not used it for a long time.

Had an MG5 exclusive, LR.. good workhorse, very spacious and comfy. Had a problem with the auto anti dazzle mirror, never seemed to work for me even after replacement. Got a bit fed up with the onerous cabin heating procedure in winter but apart from that no regrets, think I would have preferred the basic model. Got an MG4 SE now and its great.. search for "James and kates" youtube blogs, hes a mobile ev mechanic using a modifies mg5 and really rates them.

Interesting! I wonder what the differences in the two models will be? Also the price!
The new ones will probably be intermingled into MG4 pricing, so would expect that the new MG5 to be similar to what it was about 6 months ago, but as most folk purchase on PCP then who knows. For those who buy outright, I reckon + 2-3K from the equivalent MG4 model.
