Hi all, looking for some help!
I have a 2021 MG5 EV and have a podpoint installed at my property. I have had no issues until recently, when trying to charge, it will keep clicking on and off, as it is trying to connect for charge. I looked on my podpoint app, and it states it is fully charged.. which is not and i have not got or never had a scheduled charge on it.
I called podpoint and they said all is fine their side, and suggested that I call MG and make sure the car settings are correct e.g. location is off, pre condition off and AC setting is max. My question is, has anyone had this issue? Or where I can find these setting on my car?
If it helps, i recently had my car serviced, so not sure if they updated the software and this impacted anything?

The usual fix when the car has a fight with a charger is to disconnect the 12V battery for 10 seconds, or so. It then reboots the system when you reconnect and all is usually well.

Always carry a 10mm spanner in the car.

Does it behave OK on the granny 2.2kW EVSE and have you tried any other AC type2 charge points?

As @Verdigris said though I'd probably disconnect the 12 volt battery for about 10 minutes . As far as the settings go , I don't know where those settings are on my 2022 5 but why on earth would AC be set to max got to do with it ?
Some cars are able to limit AC charging (it is useful for people with solar). I don't think the MG5 one of them.

Is it possible that you have set the maximum charge on the car to less that it currently has?

Yes behaves fine. At the moment I am using the granny charger. I charge on commercial chargers with and without my supplied cable and works fine. I have even used a commercial podpoint charger and works fine

I am not sure why those settings would matter, but podpoint agent said those are a requirement.. or maybe used words to try confuse me, so they can go home!

I wouldnt know how to lol.. the only thing that has changed is i took it in for a service! I think they have possibly updated the software and its conflicting with something! I will call MG tomorrow and see if they can help! If not back onto podpoint

If after having the convo with MG i get nowhere, i will try this, thank you

Easier to try it first than speaking to MG . Just pop the bonnet , take the negative terminal off the 12 Volt battery for a few minutes and reconnect . Probably quicker than waiting on the phone :)

If your car charges fine from the supplied MG Granny unit at your home address and from another external A/C supply ( public or at work ) then surely by the means of pure deduction, your home Pod Point wall box has to be the main focus of attention?.
Is the home wall box a tethered unit ?.
If not, are you using the same type2 cable to charge at home and work ?.
Just trying to eliminate if it could be the charging cable or not !.
Have you recently installed any of the Wi-Fi extenders that plug directly into the socket outlets in your home ?.
Has your home electrics developed a problem on that circuit maybe ?.
Its a process of elimination unfortunately.

Its a untethered unit and yes using the same wire to charge at home and work, but at work we have fast chargers, so will using their wire most of the time..
No wifi extenders been recently installed
No electrical problems either and nothing has tripped or anything
Other than the recent service.. and not that i think it will impact the charger… i had a new phone but i don’t use the podpoint app for any schedulling etc..

So, you HAVE used your cable at work and it charges just fine ?.
If so, this should eliminate a fault with your type 2 cable, but IF you could try another type 2 cable from a friend on your wall box, this would 100% confirm it is not the cause of the problem.
The fact that your electrical system has not tripped does not completely rule out an earth fault though, although I doubt that this is the issue TBH.
The car charges fine from either the Granny ( at home ) or from another public AC charger, so that ensures that the car is capable of accepting a charge, which is great.
Indicating the problem is with your Pod Point wall box then surely ?.
Do you have a friend that has an EV that could try charging their car from your wall box ?.
First using their cable, then your cable.
This would confirm the problem is wall box based for sure ✔️.
All this is useful information to provide Pod Point with in this regard.

Hi all, just a quick update! Podpoint had come out and whilst charging the car, it had the issue! The technician then proceeded in changing the circuit board of pod point and tried again and still same issue! The technician actually said there is nothing else he can do… and suggested that the mapping data may stop the car from charging and to delete this! Spoke to MG and they said no data gets mapped and that podpoint are simple not taking the blame! So MG have suggested to have another car charge at my property and if the same issue happens, then its is confirmed it is the podpoint!
Cant believe still not resolved!

There is one other thing he should have done IMHO: replacing the connector on the Podpoint, the bit where you plug in your cable, not the first time a bad contact prevented/interrupted a charging session

There seem to be quite a few charger failures going on here at the moment. EO chargers have gone south too....I am replacing it with another professionally installed charger, at some cost too...:(

A quick update… had the car booked in at a MG and was told that all they would do is update software and if it charges then nothing they can do! Which is great customer service! Nevertheless I have now changed my car and my new electric car charges perfectly fine on charger which makes me think it was definitely the car. It was a good run, and thank you all for your help! All the best!

With some public chargers (I know yours is a private Podpoint) I used to have to lock the car before charging or it wouldn't charge. Once the charge started, I was always able to unlock it and sit in it with the aircon on and listen to the radio!
