CarPlay dongle data linked through car WiFi?

Been thinking but haven’t seen this anywhere. I’ve got a WiFi dongle working with my iPhone for CarPlay and it works fine apart from having to unplug and re plug to connect to car. Once the iPhone is connected to the dongle WiFi does the data pass from the MG built in data connection WiFi data point or from the iPhone’s data. In other words am I using the phones data plan or the card free data plan?

Yes that’s what I was thinking but I’m not sure. If so then there’s not a great deal of point running down data plan when you can plug in and use the cars free. Most people like me with a dongle have to unplug and plug in again to connect due to the lag in powering up the usb ports. So you may as well plug in a lead. Unless it uses the data from the cars link!!!
