Hi - after 6 months without a car (our previous MG5 went back to the lease company when my wife changed jobs) we're picking up a new facelift MG5 tomorrow! Will be very pleased to be back on the road again.

I am wondering and haven't been able to find an answer... is Apple Carplay in the FL MG5 as fussy about which cable you use to connect as the pre-FL model was? Only one of the many iPhone cables I have would work in our old MG - including many cables that have been fine in a number of rental cars that were just not recognised! It was one of my few frustrations with the car.

Thanks!

Yeah it really sucks. Even when I find a cable it likes it sooner or later starts playing up again.

I am using a wireless adapter which is a little better but still has issues now and again.

I have never seen a car have so much issue with wired CarPlay.

Agreed. As I’ve mentioned on other threads, carlinkit 5 works well and the only issue I have is the occasional problem getting initial connection.

Bonus with wireless connection is having the option of using cable to charge or not. Don’t like to unnecessarily charge my phone!

I have the car link 5 as well seems to be the best. I find it works for weeks then I have a week where I have to restart it a lot. But still way better the cable.

Well I've picked the car up and it's lovely, but predictably can't get CarPlay working at all, even with the cable I used to use in our previous MG. I've seen elsewhere people say that Anker cables seem to work well so I'll get one of those and give it a try... thanks for the comments above.

Are you plugging in to the left hand socket? On the FL MG5 it is the only one that has data.

Try this, doesn't need any cables.

Just to confirm - Anker cable arrived and works beautifully. Thanks all for the recommendations!

Worth checking the port on the phone side as well, they seem to attract pocket fluff.etc

I rarely use wired CarPlay (have an android box thing instead) but when I did I’d usually find connection issues were caused by a bad connection on the phone side.

So I ordered the Anker cable (I do like their brand) and I have to say of all the cables I have tried it has so far worked seamless. Even better than my original apple cable.

I do prefer the wired cabled as the wireless dongle does not identify the car as an EV and some features are not there.

Lets hope I have not jinxed myself and it carries on working perfectly.

Had varying degree of success connecting different family iPhones via via cable, with my own playing-up the most. Bought a cheap dongle from AliExpress that seems to have done the trick, though It does sometimes give a blank screen when Spotify's playing - I find that pressing the home button followed by a tap on the currently playing box (as opposed to the CarPlay box on LHS) brings it back correctly.

One thing though that really bugs me is that the sidebar in CarPlay is on the wrong (left) side. Is this just my set-up or is it the same for everyone?

LHS is normal
