Cars you’ve smoked ?

I somehow survived my teens and 20's on various bikes and crazy cars. Had a little Renault 5 Turbo with an adjustable wastegate. Insurance was affordable for those sorts of things back then at almost any age. Swapped it for a Citroen XM - went from a rocket propelled roller skate to an armchair on wheels...
The XM was more expensive to insure than than the R5 (!)
I had no concept of sub 4 second 0-60 times back then and anything sub 6 second was almost impossible to use as a daily driver. We sure have come a long way.

£200k for a Renault 5, somebody's having a giraffe. 🦒
Yeah but this is to the 'cooking' renault 5 EV what the 6R4 Metro was the mini metro in 1985 (I'm showing my age now!)

If we follow this analogy through, the 6R4 was between £40 & 50k when released in 1985 compared to the cooking mini-Metro at ~£4.5k, so basically 10 times the price.

So with the base Renault 5 EV @ circa £22k now, suddenly £200k doesn't seem quite as mad (although still silly money to me!)

@Bricktop X PWR you might have new completion for your ioniq 5 N dream.

New Renault 5 E turbo. RWD twin motor (one on each rear wheel) 540bhp, only weighs 1450kg.

Will cost an absolute fortune though as they aren't making that many off them and the sub frame is made of carbon fibre.

Which makes the performance off the x power seem even better value.

Agree, but at at well over 100k and even the 5N at 65k For the average person . They are just Dreams. The 5N might be affordable in a few years, second hand, but then the X Power will be even cheaper. There's already a sub 20 grand
X Power, on the forum somewhere. As you say it's fantastic value.
X Power for the ordinary person is unbeatable. And probably always will be.
🙂👍

It will be interesting to see if the much mentioned revised MG4 appears soon and what that could mean for X Power revisions.

and no doubt the Xpower at some point in the near future will be able to be 'chipped', of software upgraded to release lots more torque/hp and I'm sure it;s being 'restricted' right now. Bound to be an independent industry for this growing already somewhere.

Thing is for that kind of money you could get the underpinnings of any of the Tesla Plaid models and put pretty much any body shell on top. The guys at Electric Classic Cars have done all sorts of conversions.

The problem is with that is that suspension and brakes will need to be massively upgraded, they are on the limit as it is for any serious driving and late braking.

Fine for the driving people are mentioning on here but not currently at a level for constant winding,uphill/downhill roads with lots of late braking.
Any more power and it will be wasted.

The car is fine for flooring it, motorways dual carriageways and sweeping bends etc basically the roads people are on the majority of the time which is why it's such an appealing package

The same with virtually any car power upgrade, nothing unique to the mg4.

I never said it was but not all cars are already on their limit in terms of braking and handling and can cope easier with the added power and torque.
Start at over 400bhp means a lot more work/cost for less reward because as I said it just about has the balance spot on for most people's driving 90-95% of the time.

Agree, I had a Mk2 Focus ST standard 225bhp. Tuned to 325bhp, standard brakes coped no problems. But tune an EV which already has 435bhp to say 535bhp. Your could be in trouble. Particularly with the savage acceleration of the X Power. 🙂👍

My schoolgirl maths suggest that going from 225 to 325 bhp is an increase of 44%. Whereas from 435 to 535 is only an increase of 23% 🤓. So in terms of putting extra load on the ancillary components, surely the 435bhp to 535bhp is a milder upgrade?

Yep, agree.
