Charger cable failing to release.

We went for our first public charge today whilst shopping and used a POLAR site. We have a POLAR RFID card which we followed the instructions printed on the back. Having established a charge after a couple of failed attempts we shopped and returned to disengage using the card to stop the charge. We could not get our cable to uncouple from the car with the charge stopped and weather locked or unlocked. After 5 minutes it eventually came free with no effort at all ? What I wonder we were doing wrong?

I noticed in the manual that the lock can be manually unlocked by pulling on a cable under the bonnet, near side.

I’ve saw a video on this, it was the 1000k challenge and it didn’t seem to work..
