Hello, I've just got my car today an MG 4 SE and it was at 83% and tried to use my granny charger but even though it connects to the car, the charging won't start. I've had another electric car for 3 years but I never had this problem before. I am using a Taysla charger gun. What I am doing wrong? See some pictures. Thank you!

Have you a schedule set up? Looks like there is, and if so, it won’t start until the set start time

I tried with scheduled set up or without in the scheduled frame time. It won't start charging it connects to the car, the led is blue and that's all.

This has got to have a simple answer. I have the same car as you and granny charged it for over a year and it behaved absolutely perfectly. Is your car new?

Hi, my car is second hand, it has 14.5 km on it. Do you have any idea if this can be related to a HV battery shut off? What does it mean? Thanks.

By the way, I did turn off the scheduled planning but it still doesn't charge. It connects to the car but won't charge the car.

I do not think this is anything serious. It's not a new car, so this has been working. It's not some sort of weird factory error. I do not think there is an HV battery shut-off. There is just some little setting we need to get right. The car should be fine. I need to go now, but perhaps @siteguru, who also has an identical car, will be able to go through the steps with you in the morning.

My Trophy became temperamental about the order in which I plugged in the granny charger. It preferred that the car be connected first. You could try changing your connection sequence if you have not tried it already.

Ok, I will try this as well. There's nothing to lose. Thanks

For what it's worth, I have a similar procedure to @Martinonline:

1. Plug extension lead into wall socket and switch on at wall - ensure switch on extension is off (I'm usually using an extension lead)
2. Plug the granny into the extension lead
3. Plug the granny into the car
4. Lock the car
5. Turn on the switch on the extension

In other words, the granny is connected to the car and the car is locked before I apply power to the granny. :)

See Non-Charging

The MG4 is very fussy with EVSE charger type, thus only use a genuine MG one and you'll never have an issue again.
That is not a true or fair statement to make in such confident and generalised terms.

I’ve used just about every conceivable method of home charging from the cheapest to the most expensive and they’ve all worked just fine.

... It's a statement of fact. When my MG4 arrived, it came with a 7kW type 2 cable. However the 1st 3 months 10/22-01/23 was a complete nightmare, away from home, as the car would only charge very intermittently (1 every 10 goes maybe?) when using a non-genuine EVSE charger.
