I washed my Zs EV Monday and noticed a hole in the rubber strip on the back part of the panoramic glass.
I have no idea how this as happened .
When I wash my Ev i use a platform to wash the roof of the car.
Took it back to my mG dealer. They inspected fault ,took pictures and sent back to mg in china.
Who knows how long my will take to respond. They have to determine if it comes under the warrenty.
I was concerned water could get into car.
Technician assured me it wouldn't get past second seal.
Iv e taped across the hole.
Has anyone else come across this problem.
I would advise owners with a panoramic roof to check the deals around the glass.
Anyone want to ask any questions.fire away

Thanks for posting !.
I am having trouble picturing which precise
location of the section of seal that has ripped from your photo sorry ??.
Is it on the seal on front section of the opening glass, is it at the rear or the front of the glass, closet to the front windscreen ?.
Thanks !.

Same here but I think it's the bit that looks like shadow and the join is "pointing" at it.

That is a quite jagged rip; my guess would be caught on some branches when parked under/near a tree.
Or an animal (bird/cat) has taken a real exception to it.

I would remember if a branch had caught on car.
I dare say mg will come to the same conclusion.
It's a £31000 car with a 7 year warranty.
What's the betting MG won't accept responsibility.
When ever they get back to me.

I don’t think it’s possible for anything to catch on this area, because if I am looking at the same location, it is below the level of the glass ?.
You can only see the affected area when the glass has been opened.
I will upload some photos of what I believe to be, the same area as yours @Huskiemg.
Like most people, we have not used our Sky roof much due to the cold weather.
But a few weeks ago, I did decide to open mine.
It had probably been closed for many many months.
When it opens, it tilts from the back first, before starting to travel towards the rear of the car.
When it opened for the first in many months, it opened with a bit of a “Thud” as it released from the dry seals.
That was the message to reach for the silicone spray / lub.
I sprayed the seals and it has been closed for many weeks now.
It has just been opened to check again for you.
It opened absolutely fine, no “thud” smooth as silk.
Could be worth while check for other owners ?.
I am just wondering ?.
Bit of a long shot, but has the roof been tilted when the ambient temperature was really low by any chance, and therefore it has torn the rather soft seal by any small chance ???.
Here is what mine looks like, am I in the same position?.

Hi,thanks for pics.
The torn seal is on the rear glass section.the one that the front glass goes over.
I have not used the glass roof since about august.Don't use it very much .
Because I wash the roof using a small platform i noticed the missing piece.
When I took it back to garage they tested the roof opening inside workshop said it operated normally.
I bought the car in June so it's only 8 months old.

is your pic taken from back of car looking towards front in the drivers side

I had a MK1 ZS EV previously to the LR one I have now. The outer roof seal was shredded and MG tech said it was bird damage by pecking........................................................

They pushed the responsibility for it back onto the dealer and fixing it was a major strip down involving the entire roof lining the whole of the sunroof being removed and the seals all being replaced.

I tilted open the roof, then standing on a small pair of steps, placed between where the drivers door meets the rear door, I placed my phone on the roof, pointed it towards the front of the car, with the phone pointed slightly down towards the inside of the sun roof.
Is this the correct location you are looking for ?.
Let me know and I will try again if incorrect.

Yes that's the correct postion.

Hi, I have a feeling MG will come to the same conclusion.
so mg didn t replace your deal under waranty.
What did the dealership do for you.
what's was the cost

Seal i meant

If you look at my photos, there is three black defined row.
The outside row ( on the far right ) is seal that I believe is attached to the edge of the sky roof aperture.
The centre row ( with a white polish stain on it ) is what I believe is the rubber weather seal that provides the rear glass weather protection seal.
The far left row / band is likely to be bonded to the glass panel.
Which of the row's have been affected with the problem ?.
These are fixed item seals and I am starting to wonder if this indeed could be caused by birds pecking at the rubber seal / gasket as @Delboy102000 is suggesting here ??.

It looks to me like his damage is on what you are referring to as the centre row, where yours has the white polish on it.

The dealer undertook to fix it, but when I saw the sheer level of strip down involved including the new surround seal, I did a deal with the dealer and swapped the car for a different newer one of the same type and colour which they had lent me. The sheer amount of disassembly was quite horrendous, and I just hope it never happens on the one I have now.

Thanks.
I know it's complicated but the dealership should be able to do the job .

My MG dealership have just contacted me to tell me the damage to my panoramic roof seal is not covered by the warranty.( There's a surprise)
MG in china suggest the seal damage was done by an outside influence.
Which means i would have to pay for the repair.
Cost £800 (WOW)
Car is only 8 months old it's my second new car in last two years from the same dealership.
Iv e sent an email complaining to mg uk.
Waiting reply.
I don't plan to do anything about it at this moment in time.
I'm not very Happy.

Hi Delboy 102000,when you said your dealer wanted to fix your shredded seal was the dealer paying for the work to be done.

Hi Delboy 102000,when you said your dealer wanted to fix your shredded seal was the dealer paying for the work to be done.
Yes they were taking responsibility to fix it.
However it should be remembered that the bulk of cost is Labour as the parts required are only a small part of the cost.
However I just decided to do a deal whereby I swapped the car and left them fixing my previous one.

Hi Delboy, sounds like a good dealership.
Mine Haven t even suggested helping me out and this is my second new MG EV in 2 years.

Contacted MG customer services about having to pay for panoramic seal damage.
They have said it's not covered by the warranty and the dealership could ask MG to assist.
Don't think my dealership are very sympathetic to my problem after buying 2New MG ZS EV s in last 2 years.

I would ask the dealer directly, if they where willing to help support you, by being willing to submit a sympathetic claim to MG on your behalf.
This is seen as common practice with other manufacturers.
The dealer network has to carry out its own inspection and checks of course, before deciding if they are willing to submit said claim.
Sympathetic claims are more usual after the manufactures warranty has expired.
And therefore an impeccable dealer service history is absolutely necessary in supporting a claim.
As your car is so new, this is not the case.
My son had a series one BMW that was only 3 months out of warranty the 3 year warranty and it went in for its annual service early.
It had a warning light ? on the dash.
The service was done and paid for.
He was then handed an estimate for the work required to correct the brake fault.
The cost of the repair, almost £3,000.
I contacted BMW customer service and a long conversation over this issue.
They in turn, they contacted the dealer.
The dealer checked the service records, front to back and the car like wise.
The following day I was contacted by BMW to be told the claim was being fully supported and would be paid in full by BWM.
They made it perfectly clear that the claim had only been authorised, because the service record was impeccable and clearly the car was in a similar condition.
Lesson well learnt in this case !.
