Controlling the heating system

My thinking was set it how you want it and put it on Auto, but it takes forever to get the car up to temp, and the gauge is virtually invisible but I suppose we should be grateful as it is the only one we get I think.

I discovered the fan setting control for the auto mode today. I have set it to medium, so perhaps that will help stop the blast of air when on auto.
I actually find the car either warms up or cools down very quickly.
Although I maintain the calibration of the temperature settings are a little odd, in that I have to set the temperature much higher than is the case with my other car, or any other car I've owned.
For example in the summer I would normally have the climate control at 18 or 19 deg C, with the MG3 21 deg or more is necessary, and in colder weather typically 20 or 21 with the MG 23 deg is needed.
However unlike Big Ears and hybrid Ann, I wouldn't go as far as to say it would want me to reject the car. Car ownership is a balancing act of accepting both the good and the bad. If anyone read my comment elsewhere on this site about myothercar, they will learn how OCD I am, so with me on the MG3 tiny things like the gloss black plastic shows up the inevitable surface marks or how the black door trims in the door openings suffer from inevitable scratch marks etc.
The only major concern was the much discussed emission warning light issue, which now seems to have been solved, and the accessible revs from the engine when goingnup a hill. Given I live on a hill something I experience on every journey!
That said, I think long term I will get used to that, and given what you get for the money it still represents a good purchase for me.

I would like to reject the car on the grounds that MG is keeping us (ME) in the dark about software updates. However, I am going to the dealers today to discuss the issues I'm having, which have not been fixed by talking to MG forum members.

As for your revs increasing going up a hill, unless you have a manual gearbox and loads of power, this will be normal on any car. As it or you change down, it will rev up. I, too, live up two very steep hills, and every car we've had increases its revs to compensate.

Good morning Kev. I would be very interested in how you get on at the dealers today. Like you, I like this little MG, but there are a few odds and sods I would like to know more about. Please let us know how they respond. aitch

Right, not much wiser really.

There is no update as of now but there is one in the pipeline supposedly and it will be free and we will be informed, it seems there are a few more models to come out and then they will be looking at all the software issues the MG are aware of.

I'm no further forward regarding the Software.

I reported a bit of trim that was broken and it's on order now.

The problems with the MG app are still not solved yet.

The problem of not having an MP3 track list if I have the Android phone attached is a new one apparently, and he couldn't figure out where the apps were that were being displayed in its place.

I've forgotten most of it but will report as and when the cell wakes up again.

Thanks Kev. I await your further words of wisdom. You can be our MG Ambassador. Re the Cyber whatsit. Fantastic! Only problem, apart from coughing up the shekels, is me and mrs aitch getting in and out of those doors. Love the Yorkshire accent from Luscombe's salesman. whoops...salesperson.

If MG could elevate their after sales and customer service to the standard that will be expected of a buyer of a car at that price point, then the Cyberster should be an absolute winner! As it stands it offers a unique position in the market, as being the only EV Roadster on the market, and as you say it looks great!

The problem, here, is that MG is sold in car showrooms of: Jaguar, Land Rover and, sometimes, others.
So the sellers, mechanics and technicians, have ONLY a basic preparation of the MG.
Maybe in a few months, if sales continue like this, they will have more training courses to take.

Hmm, the chap I spoke to in Bradford MG, Oliver, a very pleasant chap, I was with him for over an hour, mentioned he had come from JLR as they like to be called now

Back on topic, he showed me how to get the heating and fans onto the left star button, press it and adjust with the right hand toggle.

He did agree that the software left a lot to be desired, so I feel vindicated by that. He said the only people who didn't seem to have problems were the type to not bother about them and just get on with it.

Sorry, not true!

It may be true in Italy but I bought my MG5 from a specialist dealer whose only brand was MG! And I know of at least one other main dealer fairly close to where I live whose only brand is similarly MG.

In fact, if you read carefully, I wrote "The problem, here" (in my area),
I did not write "the problem all over the world".
You are lucky, dealers, technicians and mechanics will be specialized only for MG.

Not really, most will have been trained in other dealerships before going to MG.

I personally wouldn't have 100% faith in this statement, but in the UK, MG claim this . . . . . . .

"We guarantee:

TRAINED MG TECHNICIANS

Our technicians have undertaken extensive training in our academy. They will service your vehicle to the highest standards in full compliance with the terms of your vehicle’s warranty."

Extensive training, could mean, they have attended some brand specific training days in person or online. Their apprenticeship was most likely in any make or a multi brand dealership. Academy can be a very loose term.

They bloody well better do for the amount they seem to be charging.

Having discovered that the right hand star button can be used to operate temp and fan speed, makes operation so much easier. Pity though it doesn't show when you have carplay on the screen.
One thing I would have changed, when you you push the toggle it would have been better if it set the system to auto i/o switching off the a/c.

The central button of the keyboard under the navigator, has the function to turn on / off the air conditioning.

I asked the dealer today and he guessed (he didn't know) so Ive written to MG Customer Support asking them to clarify what the settings are supposed to do in the Air Volume in Auto Mode – it has Low, Medium and High ( as per screenshot below). I have changed between them and have not noticed any difference between them. I use the air conditioning on Auto.

I will let you know what their reply is, unless anyone else has found out what they are supposed to do.
