Critical key bug detected

Had a similar problem, but the reverse, not long before the drive off without the key fob and long walk as a result.

Went out for a meal at the local community club and sat out on the rear balcony with our pet dogs. It started to turn cold, so went out to the car to get a jumper ..... and the button on the door handle wouldn't unlock the door ...... thought I must have left the fob in the club, as I was about to walk in the door of the club, I saw the reflection of the lights flashing on the car ...... then someone else go in it and drove away  a closer examination of the cars around and mine was further up the road  lucky the owner of the other white MG4 didn't see me trying to steal his car  I should have realised it wasn't our car, it was clean .....

Hi!
Thanks for your reply but I think that neither of your suggested options is the accurate situation.

Yes it was a rental car for a weekend.
Yes we searched for the special emergency start on the internet.
And yes as this was an crazy experience we wanted to make MG know, hence we found this forum.

No, contacting the rental company would not make sense as this did not happened on the rentals company parking but on a random parking: the other car was definitely not a rental car (once we noticed, we noticed!)

Would really help if you could just provide me an idea on how to let MG know.

Thanks

Click the link, top result for me.

Whoo hoo... we have the answer of how to contact MG :)

But, LOL... it took the effort of logging on here, posting 3 messages and 3 days later for the OP to get the answer via a google search of "contact mg france".

I suspect MG might take more than 3 days to get back with an answer and/or fix!

Honestly, and sort of sadly, I doubt MG will get back to the OP at all about this. And if they do, I doubt it will be more than a courtesy email.

How can you possibly fail to recognise your own car
Very easily. Happened to me in a Tesco's carpark.my car (MG5 PFL in Piccadilly Blue) was parked on a charger. I did a quick trolley bash. Came out of the store, headed across the carpark, approached a MG5 PFL in Piccadilly Blue in a charging bay, pressed the door handle lock button and .... Nowt!
Did a bit of faffing around. In the end I got my fob out, thinking there was something wrong with the remote and intending to use the physical key. As it happened, I pressed the unlock button, whereupon I saw the indicators flash. On a MG5 PFL in Piccadilly Blue that was in the next bay down.
Duh!

That's not the scenario cited though.
We're talking about getting in the car and driving it, so you'd have to fail to notice every internal personalisation unique to your car. Off the top of my head I can think of the following that would immediately tell me if I was not sitting in my own car:
  • Seat position
  • Rear Mirror position
  • Door Mirror position
  • ICE Settings
  • USB Cables
  • HVAC Settings
  • Mileage
  • Battery Charge
  • Dashcam
  • Phone Cradle
  • Door pocket contents
  • Stuff left on the seats

I think this was with a rental car so some of those wouldn’t apply maybe, but seat/mirror positions would still be a dead giveaway. And probably some personal items.

Conversely, all these other things would probably be present on the other car, which should give away you didn’t get into your rental.
