Does anyone have a Dashcam on their MG3 using the USB port behind the rear view mirror? Can you show us a photo of the installation?

I have this one

very basic camera, but does the job. Use a short usb cable to connect it to mirror usb port.

Actually, i got it from a Greek e-shop at aprox same price from aliexpress, but didn't mention it because it delivers only to Greece

This is where I’m getting my confusion also with the centre console usb sockets (question asked earlier this month) …..Manual says using usb sockets with engine off will drain battery… BUT if there is no power to usb sockets when engine off how can the battery drain?

There is no power to the mirror USB socket when the ignition is off, so zero battery drain when off.

There is no power to the mirror USB socket when the ignition is off, so zero battery drain when off.
So therefore same applies also to the other 3 usb sockets in car (2 front console and 1 rear) as they are all run off the same fuse as rear view mirror USB and therefore the statement in the manual ‘Using the power socket or USB port when the vehicle is not running will cause premature discharging of the vehicle battery, and prolonged use may cause flat battery, meaning the vehicle cannot be started.’ Is false

The statement is true, as I explained in this previous post reply, if you use the socket/s when the ignition is on, but the vehicle is not running to charge the battery, then you may flatten the battery, but if the engine is running, the battery will be charged while you're using the sockets.

If you plug it into a USB in the car and you want parking mode, it will definitely drain the battery, but if you just want it to work whilst you are driving then it will be fine

No it won't because the usb powers off with the car being locked.

Parking mode will only work if hard-wired to a permanent live on the fusebox.

I would be very interested to know if anyone has already hardwired their dashcam (possibly even front and rear) and how the cables were laid (as a possible aid for a workshop mechanic as I am not good at these electrical things. ?)
I also bought a dashcam (2ch) and for the time being I will limit myself to the front camera, connected to the USB port on the windshield. However, this also means (as we all know) that it is not possible to use guard mode, although this would be interesting.
