Hello, I would like to have information on the problems of a discharged 12 volt battery, which causes the vehicle to be immobilized.... Many MG3 owners have had this problem.

Is there a fix applied by MG so that this no longer happens?

When you say "Many MG3 owners have had this problem", are you referring to MG3 Hybrid owners, or the previous MG3, because nobody on this forum has reported this problem?

I haven't heard of it as a problem with MG3 Hybrid. It is an issue with the Toyota Yaris, when the car is left sitting up for a few days, but the auxiliary battery in the MG3 hybrid is bigger than the one in the Yaris.

I hope this is a one-off as we're off to Europe in April and the car will be stood for about 7 weeks, we were away for 6 weeks this year and the Fiesta fired straight up when we got back.

I've had my MG3+Hybrid for 3 months now and I haven't had any problem with the battery. I would suggest though, if you are leaving the car for 7 weeks, to remove the battery, as any battery would have at least a small problem being left that long.

Hello, I am talking about the MG3 hybrid plus and I am in France on the MG3 Facebook group there are many reports that the 12 volt battery is discharging.I'm glad to hear this is not listed in England. It's possible that updates will fix the problem.

I do have a spare Ctek charger so I may use that, I'd not both too much as I can park facing down hill but not sure if it is a good idea being auto or how/if it could be bump started.

Not sure about removal to be honest, all sorts of things may need to be reset, I think I'll ask the dealer

MG4 owners have had similar problems. Check that the battery terminals are secure, especially the negative terminal which is disconnected during shipping. It was getting missed by dealers to tighten the battery terminals as part of their pre handover checks.

Some MG4 owners (including myself) got themselves a battery booster pack (the newer small type that doubles as a USB battery pack) I got to use mine for the first time recently to jump start someone else's car.

Yes that might be handy as we often burger off for a while in the camper, going up into Scotlandshire in two weeks for the Braemar games, His Kingness might show up, often saw his mum up there, My other half stood in for her one year :D :D

In my basket, but still waiting to see if those more brainier than moi come up with a definitive way to do it, plus the dealer service is ringing me in the morning, I won't be the only one to need it at some point.

Looks like you will be our Guinea pig. A trickle charger might be a option.

A new battery should hold its charge. I always turn off radio, air con, lights and anything else that might not disconnect with the ignition. I have left a car for nearly four months and the battery was sufficient to fire up the engine. Old batteries are a different matter!

Could be because only used on short journeys.Battery not being charged enough.

One of two things needs to happen.

A it's not getting used/charged not charging, is there a light for that?

B it's a buggered battery

I've ordered one of these if it ever gets here, one has gone missing so far.

This type of question/problem has been mentioned here and on other manufacturers forums on several occasions, by me and others.

My solution and that of many others who leave their cars for long periods, particularly at airport car parks whilst on longer holidays, is to purchase a small 12 volt jump starter pack, I paid a bit over £30, there are cheaper versions, but I avoided those and went mid budget, they can be pricey, up towards £100 for some.

This must be kept in the car somewhere easily accessible, mine is under the front seat, the boot is not easily accessible during 12V battery failure.

I also bought a cheap head torch, as it’s often dark when we return from holiday and to have free hands and be able to see without needing to hold a torch is a clear advantage, additionally perhaps a pair of thin latex gloves may be useful to keep you clean, but not essential for safety as 12 volts is not dangerous.

Additionally familiarize yourself with what has to be done at home, in case of an emergency and ensure the correct lead colours are used, i.e., red to red and black to black (battery pack to 12 volt car battery)

To call out recovery help can take hours, so to be able to easily get you going is a no brainer, unless of course you are one.

I’m thinking of saving these few words of help as it seems I’m repeating myself fairly regularly on the MG forum. Good luck!
