Hi everyone,

I need some help with a repair on my MG. I recently drove into my garage with the tailgate up and ended up with some scratches and scuffs near the badge area. I’ve attached a couple of close-up photos of the damage.

Apologies for the dirt.. I was just about to wash the car since I’m selling it, so you can imagine how pissed off I was at myself for being an idiot! My insurance excess is $800, and I’m pretty sure making a claim for this would just increase my insurance costs, so I’d rather fix it myself if possible.

I’m trying to repair it as cheaply as possible while still getting a decent finish. Has anyone tackled a similar repair? I’d appreciate any tips on cleaning, sanding, touch-up painting, or even product recommendations that worked for you.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Jason

In the UK, there are plenty of operators that specialise in this sort of repair on your driveway. Do you have the same in Australia?

Start with cleaning the car, then polish to remove light marks and scuffs to see what you're left with. There are many YouTube videos providing advice on this type of repair. CVR POV channel is one of the ones I'd recommend. Go watch those, buy paint, etc and give it a go. The more prep, the better the end result I've found. Take you time, and don't rush it.
