Firstly I would like to wish you all the very best Christmas and New Year possible for you. I have had my ZS-EV since February and charge it from the 13 amp charger as I have not ventured more than 40 miles from home so far and have not looked at other charging sources. I have noticed that 2 new chargers have been added to a local car park but unlike the existing one they require you to have your own cable. As I hope to start longer journeys in the New Year do you think it necessary to buy a connecting cable? If so can you recommend a source of one and your preferred make.

Wasn't there an offer on a type 2 cable on the forum from ecoharmony? Will be a worthwhile investment as you may find you need it in the future.

Have you not gone for the grant and had a wall charger fitted, as you will get a faster charge at home

A lot of the 7kw/22kw AC chargers is "bring your own lead". I think a lead is a benefit to have even if not used regularly, as you might find chargers which are free, and free electricity is always better than paid for electricity.

Another benefit is destination charging. For me I travelled to London during the summer, and to have a full charge after leaving the car in a car park for many many hours while visiting friends and shopping was great. I could have used a rapid but rapids are not located in places where you want to spend time at, and you really need to move the car after 90mins to not block them or get a over-stay fee. Also when stopping at the service station mid-way, thanks to the full charge at the destination, I only need a "splash and dash" charge, just so that I could use air-con for the trip and not have to be forced to do a eco drive.

Also if you do get a faster home charger, you have the option of unthreaded, and then you can take the lead with you.

Bought mine from EV Charging Cables & Connectors for Electric Cars - Largest Range - BEST Prices
It works. But there might be better deals out there.

Many thanks, unfortunately my home is limited to only 17 amps max due to poor infrastructure and an exorbitant cost to update it.. I normally charge overnight which for shorter journeys is sufficient particularly as i currently do not use the car everyday.

Mines been in the back of the car for a year...unused...just like the spare wheel...but its nice to know its there....just in case.

Have a look at getting a EO mini pro. The output can be limited to 16a max output. Get a 32amp cable that you use out and about.
Initially I was excited about this suggestion and started to investigate. Then i realised that my 16 amps is the total that I can use in the house so I am back to the granny charger which only uses 10 amps which is fine if we don't use any other high powered electrics.

Pete, you can't be the only person in this situation, find an installer and have a chat to them or email the maker of your Charger of choice and ask them for a solution, I'm sure there will be one.

The zappi has got the ability to use the CT camp to limit charge based on grid load and can be limited all the way down to 13amp. The only issue I see is getting an elctrician who knows what they are doing and willing to fit it, as they often dont like fitting chargers to a house with less than 60amp supply.

I thought uk homes ehere suppliedbwith between 60 and 100 amps so there should never be an issue.
