Do you expect that MG will improve its MG Pilot to a level similar to Tesla's FSD?

I’d like to return to the topic of MG Pilot. It seems to me that with some effort, MG Pilot could potentially handle more and do it better in the future. Do you know if MG has commented on any plans for further development or updates, or if these might come—if at all—with new vehicles? It would be interesting if some form of FSD were available for already manufactured cars as well.

I have no information but based on the rate of development I have seen so far (basically zero) I really wouldn't expect it. Even the current lane assist is at the 'zigzag between the white lines' level. I don't detect any appetite for improving quality/features. Sadly, as there's lots on my car that could be improved with a software update and give them a much better reputation.

I was a little afraid of that. I have a similar feeling. However, without a change in approach, it won't work in the future. Hopefully, MG will surprise us. Or rather, SAIC :)

There is, it's called Comma AI.

There are a number of videos on Youtube showing it working in the UK. :)

It will undoubtedly get better but will take time & zero chance of getting anywhere near Tesla FSD! First MG need to sort out OTA updates and improved CPU so screen is responsive, hopefully in next refresh. You can see where the company is going with the MG9 which includes improved software. Legacy manufacturers first priority is not going bankrupt let alone developing FSD. All remaining legacy peeps will licence Tesla FSD with only BYD, Zeekr, Xpeng developing there own.

To get anywhere near full autonomy with the present state of technology, you need a massive fleet of vehicles gathering heaps of data. Only Tesla has that at present, and I don't see others getting to that stage any time soon.

I think that the best chance we have of Tesla-like technology in our MGs is if SAIC/MG licence the tech from Tesla. I'm pretty sure that Tesla would be happy to arrange that.

Maybe a company like BYD will surprise me one day.

Exactly right, legacy auto has no chance, they can’t even get basic UI software right and are likely to go bankrupt. Only BYD & Zeekr have much chance on autonomy, the rest will licence Tesla FSD.

I use MG pilot all the time on motorways and find it quite good at lane keeping, not perfect though, with very little zigzag at all. Are you sure you are double pulling the ACC stalk to engage full MG pilot. They call it traffic jam assist for some reason, the ACC display will show a car between 2 lines with another car to the left of it. The centre display will show a view of the rear of your car with green lane markings either side when fully active.

The vast amount of data collection Tesla are doing on driving data from their customers, matched to the heavyweight software development team based in the hub of the best software talent in the world, I think is no match for what SAIC are playing around with their assist systems.

I think Tesla are 99% of the way their with the self driving system (at least on US roads) but the trouble is that the final 1% will be the hardest to do, and ultimately it will be a 'co-pilot' for many, many years.

We have to wait for fully FSD, but it would be nice if MG could improve the current MG Pilot to at least the current level of Tesla.

Exactly right, however we will obviously find out a lot more at the Tesla 10/10 event and from that no doubt there will be multiple trials of their RoboTaxi, starting in China.
Although correct to say the last 1% for autonomy is hard to reach, data continues to show Tesla FSD as safer than a human along with the no. Miles driven without intervention increasing.
With the fleet increase and improved AI processing, especially with AI/HW5 Tesla CPUs that will power the RT, the data will soon show regulators that the Tesla FSD is ready for prime time. I’d expect within 1-2 years with the current rate of improvement.

Absolutely zero chance. Their ADAS systems will improve and great for safety, but SAIC are nowhere for FSD and will need to licence from Tesla.

Mind you, I'm still to read about MG Pilot confusing a trailer with a clear summer sky or red traffic light with sunset ... ?
