I have panels, a house battery and an untethered 7kW smart charger. It is a great combo. for me. We have a VW e-Up! and a BMW 225Xe (PHEV) the latter of which is being traded in for an MG ZSev Trophy Connect ordered last December (with the grant). In this degree of sunshine, I simply connect either car needing charging to the granny charger and monitor the house battery state of charge. When it drops to 20%, I switch the granny off and wait for the panels to charge it up again. Yesterday the panels and the granny did it all without involving the battery (fully charged all day) - or - of course, the grid. Went to bed last night (11 pm) with the battery still at 50%. Total electricity consumption yesterday was 4.05kWh - most of that done in the small hours topping up the house battery on low tariff leccy. No, unteatherd for me. I also have solar panels, we don’t have a battery for storage. Would you recommend one?
Untethered charger gets used at night if needed and during winter months. House battery converts high tariff leccy to low tariff in the winter mornings. (Have two type 2 charger cables and two grannies = the only one purchased was with the Beemer. I'm keeping that. I'd definitely recommend a house battery.
