Door seals

I bought my MG5 SW EV 2.5 years ago and I'm broadly satisfied with the car. I've done less than 11.000 miles, so was disappointed to see how badly the door seals have deteriorated. I was even more disappointed when I rang the MG Dealer who supplied the car and he told me door seals were only guaranteed for 1 year.
Any thoughts from forum members

BTW - I also drive an MGB Roadster and that has its original door seals from 1980, OK, they are showing signs of wear, but are still functional

My MG5 is 3.5 years old and the seals are just fine so I don't think there's a fundamental issue.
Could they have been affected by cleaning chemicals perhaps?

I've seen similar on Tesla model S. Some wear through like this, whilst others stay like new. It's down to how you get in and out of the car I think. If you brush against this seal every time as you get in or out, it can wear through them.

It's your butt dragging across the seal when you get in the car, a very common problem on all makes of car, especially where you have to bend to get in. The MG5 is a difficult car to get into if you are tall or wide and there's no getting away from that. You can probably find something to repair the seal with or replace it but no manufacturer is going to do it under warranty 2 years down the road.

Mine looks exactly the same after 63K mileage.

Has anyone priced up a new seal from MG? May well not be too badly priced. Say it was £100 even, that's nothing much if you have to change it every 3 or 4 years or so.

Thanks for all of your replies - This is the first new car that I've ever bought, so I guess my expectations were too high.
Yes, I am getting older and, yes, on reflection I probably am finding it a little harder to get in and out of my car - But, although I'm not surprised that the door seals aren't covered by the warranty, I'm still disappointed that they haven't lasted longer...

I am having a problem with the ingress of water onto the drivers seat of my 2021 MG5 EV when left parked in the rain. It looks as if the window has been left open but it hasn't.
I have inspected the rubber seal all around the door but it seems in good condition. The car has no sunroof so this cannot be the culprit. I am completely baffled, has anyone had the same experience.

Either sit in the driver's seat until you spot a drip whilst raining or get someone to spray with a hose in the unlikely event it's not!
