I just took receipt of a 2022 Trophy MG of which I am the second owner from a EV dealer. Upon initial inspection the car was fine and nothing really came up the same as on the initial sign over.

Its only when my other half went out today to take a look at the car she noticed a gash in drivers side foam/weather strip. I have emailed the dealer to see what they can do about it as they have 3 month warranty + I have 14 days to cancel the whole thing so I am sure they're wanting to resolve.

Not sure if anyone has had this come up before or wear in this are and cost to fix it?

Photos attached... I doubt this would be under MG warranty as seems customer induced wear?

That's an odd place to start wearing out?

Is the door sitting correctly in the frame?

Seems that it's too tight and giving too much pressure on that part?

Weird.

I would expect to see that on a 15 year old car not 2!

Rubber components are covered up to 36 months so you should be OK, unless there is an underlying issue of course.

Maybe the previous owner was on the "larger" side and had a tendency to lean and rub against that part of the B pillar when they got in and/or out?

Seems definitely from someone rubbing on it getting in and out. Have raised with dealership and MG themselves as looking at old threads here someone with MG5 had it and they fixed under warranty so I will see. If they don't I will be asking for the dealership to pay for it!

Hi, I have had the same issue, partly due to the width of the sill and I'm tall and the seat is a long ways back, easy to run against this and the resulting wear is as shown above. Not leaking so getting on with it and trying not to rub against it. Sort of a design error.

Dealer has come back to me saying if MG doesn't cover in warranty they will buy and send out the part. I did go back saying who is going to fit the part? I am sure these are probably sealed by some sort of adhesive or tension?

Thanks

That's good.
No adhesive, just tension.

Easy enough to put back using your palm or outside of your fist to 'thump' it on.

If you can't face using your hand get a small rubber mallet.

5 minutes to do. ?

I had the same problem on my last (ICE) car, which was a working vehicle I was in and out of quite often. Had it as ex-demo from nearly new, so it had to be my fault. Fixed it by putting a length of foam sealant backer rod into the seal and then closing it with duct tape.
Hope you find a more elegant solution for yours.
I take an XL shirt, and must rub against the seal when getting in and out of the car.
Glad you raised this. I've just checked my door seal and it is wearing. The glossy finish is now matt. Might put some tape over the top to protect.

Mine is showing slight wear too. I'm using a silicone rubber dressing on it to reduce the friction when I brush against it to see if that helps.

Popped down to my local service centre, immediately chap said they only cover these for one year get the dealership to send you another.

Dealership going to order the part and get it to me hopefully by next week. So just an fyi if you guys do notice in the future it isn't covered!

It seems the chair does indeed go back far and I sit more forward, so I can't imagine I will be rubbing the new one much. Appreciate all your guys input on this, a very helpful forum!

Thanks

mine has worn through here too, possibly slightly lower but same general area

let us know how much a replacement is if you get one

A replacement shouldn't be expensive. You can get 3m of car door rubber weather seal from Amazon for £14 ish although you would need to check the profile etc.

Took a look at my trim yesterday ... all good after 8k+ miles and nearly 2 years. (Low mileage user).
