In trying to turn on the interior lights I accidentally hit the Emergency Call button which worked very quickly and effectively, allowing me to apologise to the emergency services about how incompetent I was and that I didn't need any help. Then it went off again, very embarrassing.
Having switched the interior lights on without calling the emergency services I then carefully read the manual about how to initiate and cancel the emergency call system.
Basically if you accidentally hit it you have 5 seconds to cancel it by pressing it again.
In my experience of operating safety critical systems, important buttons which shouldn't be pressed in error are usually placed well away from buttons which are used a lot and usually have a flip cover or other device to ensure that it takes a very deliberate act to initiate the function. I am trying to work out how to do this, may need to find an aircraft second hand parts store.
