EV opposition in the media is ramping up

The stupidity is amazing.
Why make a £30,000 car to spy on us when a few hundred quid phone will do it anyway.
Create a few apps (tiktok, facebook(US)), and bob's your uncle and sally's your aunt.
Not to mention that hardly anyone is interesting enough to spy on in the first place. Could you imagine the boredom of spying on most people's lives? Condemned to spend your working life effectively watching reality TV. I'd rather die.

MG were unable to provide over the air updates as promised, so I am not that convinced by these claims myself TBH.
Tesla ……. Well that’s another story I guess.
They are brilliant with regards to their knowledge of software etc.
It’s just another typical anti EV proper gander story.
Not sure it’s worthy of front paper news though ?.
Must be short of a story, so bang that in !.

Better bin all Apple products then, mostly made in China.

If the Chinese government are spying on me alongside the British government, at least that makes things fair... ?

This reminds me of one of these MacMaster videos I watched for a laugh. He was banging on about how the whole point of EVs was to allow people to be spied on - that's probably where they got the story in the first place.

In the YouTube comments, someone rightly pointed out that he paid for charging his car using Apple Pay. If he's worried about being spied on, he has more to be concerned about than his electric Porsche.

What's good for the goose is good enough for the gander.

On the other hand, some places have their act together. I have a theatre booking in ten days time. I noticed there are 32 PodPoint connectors in the car park. I wondered, how early do I have to be to grab one of these?

Then today I got an email confirming my booking, and (among other things) offering me the chance to book an electric car charging space in the car park. No booking fee, no parking fee, 35p/KWh.

So now I have a ticket that entitles me to a charging space, and no worries about whether I'll find one free when I get there.

Is this the real future?

WOW that is amazing. Lets hope it is the future.

You will have to let us know if it all works out.

Awesome! I wonder if someone who works at the theatre owns an EV, because that kind of organisation points towards someone knowing what they are doing. :)

I was very much hoping to get on one of these chargers, because this is at the far end of a 450-mile journey, with the return journey the next day, and I want to let the battery balance at 100% if possible to give the GOM the best chance of being right on the motorway. Really pleased to know I don't have to worry about getting a space.

There's something about the chargers being (partly, I imagine) supplied by their own wind turbine. Maybe they're eco-nuts. It all sounds remarkably organised.

They also gave details about how to use the chargers and how much charge you can expect to get.

I got the 35p/KWh figure from ZapMap though. Maybe they're hedging their bets and not quoting a price in case they want to jack it up!

That is one hell of a journey for you but enjoy and thank you for posting the information.

I've got a thread in the MG4 forum area about it. I'll post how I get on. Currently having a bit of trouble identifying a suitable rapid charger in Lancashire because Killington Lake is coming up as too slow, I'm not sitting for half an hour in an industrial estate outside a Porsche showroom with no refreshments around, and the one ABRP wants to send me to instead is either broken or nonexistent depending on which app you believe. I think I may have identified one though.

Fortunately on the way back, Burton-in Kendal has ultra-rapid Gridserves.

Well Rolfe it appears your using the M6 so at junction 27 just 100 yards from the roundabout sign posted for Wrightington as you come up the slip road off the M6, there is a MFG charging hub with 8 rapid chargers on a BP fuel station which has a shop for coffee etc and once charged it’s 100 yards to get back on the M6 motorway again the post code is WN6 9RB

if you need a pub which does fantastic food only 250 yards or so is a pub called the White Lion on Mossy Lea road dead easy to get to and get back to rejoin the M6 hope this might help.

I've had a look, but I'm afraid that's too far for me in an SR. It's 176 miles, which even though I'll be starting on a full charge, seems to be cutting it a bit fine at motorway speeds. An LR could do it easy, of course, but I don't think I should go much beyond Lancaster, certainly not as far as Preston.

I see the chargers though, and they look extremely convenient. If I find myself on a 50 Kw and not charging that fast, I might take on say 15% charge, then move on there on your recommendation. Thanks.

I used to do Sussex to central Scotland in an evening, and back in an evening a few days later. I didn't hang around. But the MG4 is so relaxing to drive, and I'll have three stops, so hopefully I'll get in reasonably fresh. (I'm staying with friends on the south coast.)

Ok I understand you I other point quite a lot of the M6 from I think J15/16 to J27/28 a lot of that section is 50mph due to the smart motorway up grade that has been going on for around 2years in parts but yeh perhaps at Hilton park a quick charge could do the job

If I'm slowed down like that then I'll obviously take longer on the drive, but I may save some of it in charging time.

ABRP is suggesting a BP Pulse charger at Garstang SF Connect as a good stop, although it means leaving the motorway between J33 and J32 and taking the A6. The snag there is that ZapMaps is saying the charger is broken and has been for at least a week, and it isn't even shown on the BP Pulse app. I don't want to risk it.

ABRP is however showing one before that, an Instavolt at Greenlands Farm, and I think I'll go for that. I was wondering what to do if there was a problem with the Instavolt, and I think the answer is to pick up enough to get to Crow Orchard wherever I can (I might get that in ten minutes at the ultra-rapid at the Porsche showroom, which is nearby, but as I said not somewhere for a meal break), and then stop for lunch at your suggested hostelry.

Thanks very much for the suggestion!

Futher up the M6 is Tebay services very nice place which big farm shop and restaurant very good and Gridserve rapids 350kw I think but that does really matter as remember you car is limit is only around 87kw the site at crow orchard is good but not the cheapest around 79p but guaranteed and 150kw very convenient just off the Mway

Tebay isn't practical on this journey for two reasons. One, the southbound service station only deals with Teslas, unless the additional chargers I was told were flagged up on a billboard have actually materialised. The other issue is that it's too far north to fit into a three-stop plan for the entire route.

I have my eye on it for going to Yorkshire in the future, once the new chargers are in on the southbound services.

I've stopped at Tebay before, even took a hotel room there once when I was running late, and it's really nice - at least, the northbound is. I've never actually had the car on anything faster than 50 Kw yet (other than a test on a 175 Kw to see if it worked, when I was already too high to get more than about 13 Kw) so this will be interesting. If it will do 88 Kw or thereabouts, that's still nearly twice the speed I get on the 50 Kw chargers, so it's not to be sneezed at.

On my way back I have my eye on the 350 Kw Gridserve at Burton-in-Kendal, if I can get on it. If I can't there are 50 Kw chargers there too, but I'm hoping it might be quiet in the evening.

Rolfe these big ultra rapids 350kw are not of much use to you in the 4seSR the car governs the rate of charge please don’t forget that.
Les

If it's a choice between 350 Kw and 50 Kw, as it is at Burton, I'll take the 350 Kw if it's available, because that'll still give me twice the speed as the 50 Kw. I realise 350 will be no better than 100 for me, but there aren't any 100 Kw units there.

Actually I've just had a closer look at ZapMap and there are actually six 350 Kw units as well as the three 50 Kw connectors. This is what we want! (Well, I'd settle for a lower wattage, but the point is they're more than 50 Kw and they're capable of charging the car as fast as it's able to charge.
