EV opposition in the media is ramping up

Anything to distract from the fact that the Tories have proved themselves to be the worst government in British history and there's a looming General Election...
 
Has anyone noticed the Sun seems to have more anti-ev stories than the Daily Mail now ? Or is it just my news feed ?
N.B. I don't read either.

It certainly didn't do the LibDems any favours. They behaved like obedient puppies, doing what their master said. :)
 
The only time I couldn't get straight on a charger (Stafford Ionity) everyone was very friendly, a queue system was organised, and it was nice chatting. It wasn't a long wait, partly because a couple of people decided to leave because they didn't really need to charge, so they got out of the way for the people who did.

The main issue was that one of the six chargers wasn't working, so it looked to new arrivals as if there was a space. Someone in the queue had to take responsibility for directing the new arrivals away from the broken charger bay and explaining where they were in the queue. This was all done with great good humour.
 
The most aggresive people I've encountered at chargers are the ICE car drivers blocking a charger and refusing to move. All the EV drivers I've met have been friendly and keen to share their experiences.

I was in the queue for the Gridserve chargers at the M11 Welcome Break at Birchanger (near Stansted Airport), there are three small spaces for 3 CCS and 1 Chadmeo (anyone know how to pronounce this?!) the low number coupled with it being the only services on the M11 and a large town with no other Rapid chargers makes this possibly the worst charger in our area for availability anyway.

It was raining and the queue was working well when a whacking great Audi pulled up right next to the spaces and you could just tell as he made no effort to park up other than on the road right by the charger he was going to drive into the space. All the rest of us were parked upstream from the charger so whoever left would be in our way. Anyway, the anticipation made me go as I wasn't desperate to charge and I was already in quite a bad mood and didn't want the chance for escalation (stepmum had just died and we were driving up North that afternoon to be with Dad.)

Could have just been unaware of the queue and a nice person but, you know, Audi.

Stopped at the Services to charge, spaces free, no worries, started charging. Range Rover pulled up, parked in the remaining free space, got out with his family and went inside ... :(
Was still there when I left, hope he got a fine ;)

A very well presented argument with generous assumptions about MPG's and yet EV's still came out on top.

Bob Llewellyn mentioned this on a Fully Charged video a while ago saying it was about 6 years to reach parity but didn't go into the details like this video did.

It's nice to have some ammunition to fire back at the EV haters. :)

I just let em get on with it telling me how much money I've lost, my battery will ve dead in 7 years which will write the car off etc. If it keeps em happy with their smug grins thats good for me, less EV's on the road = more chargers available.

I also ask them:-

I am thinking of replacing my electric car with a petrol car and have some questions.
1. I have heard that petrol cars can not refuel at home while you sleep? How often do you have to refill elsewhere? Is this several times a year? Will there be a solution for refueling at home?
2. Which parts will I need service on and how often? The car salesman mentioned a box with gears in it. What is this and will I receive a warning with an indicator when I need to change gear?
3. Can I accelerate and brake with one pedal as I do today with my electric car?
4. Do I get fuel back when I slow down or drive downhill? I assume so, but need to ask to be sure.
5. The car I test drove seemed to have a delay from the time I pressed the accelerator pedal until it began to accelerate. Is that normal in petrol cars?
6. We currently pay about 1.2p per mile to drive our electric car. I have heard that petrol can cost up to 10 times as much so I reckon we will lose some money in the beginning. We drive about 20,000 miles a year. Let's hope more people will start using petrol so prices go down.
7. Is it true that petrol is flammable? Should I empty the tank and store the petrol somewhere else while the car is in the garage?
8. Is there an automatic system to prevent gasoline from catching fire or exploding in an accident. What does this cost?
9. I understand that the main ingredient in petrol is oil. Is it true that the extraction and refining of oil causes environmental problems as well as conflicts and major wars that over the last 100 years have cost millions of lives? Is there a solution to these problems?
10. I have heard that cars with internal combustion based engines are being banned to enter more and more cities around the world, as it is claimed that they tend to harm the environment and health of their citizens?? Is that true??
I may have more questions later, but these are the most important ones to me at the moment. Thank you in advance for your reply.
