EV opposition in the media is ramping up

He's only a moderator, so merely a demi-god. ;)
Reminds me of the definition of military rank:

GENERAL: Leaps tall buildings, is more powerful than a locomotive, is faster than a speeding bullet, walks on water amid hurricanes, gives policy to God.

COLONEL: Leaps short buildings with a single bound, is more powerful than a switch engine, is just as fast as a speeding bullet, walks on water if the sea is calm, talks to God.

LT, COLONEL: Leaps short buildings with a running start and a favourable wind, is almost as powerful as a switch engine, is faster than a speeding pellet, walks on water in indoor swimming pool, talks to God if a request form is approved.

MAJOR: Barely clears a Nissan hut, loses tug of war with a switch engine, can fire a speeding bullet, swims well, is occasionally addressed by God.

CAPTAIN: Makes high marks by trying to leap buildings, gets run over by locomotive, can sometimes handle a gun without shooting himself, dog paddles, talks to animals.

1ST. LIEUTENANT: Runs into buildings, recognizes locomotive two out of three times, is not issued with live ammunition, can stay afloat in a Mae-West if properly instructed, talks to walls.

2ND. LIEUTENANT: Falls over the doorstep when entering buildings, says "Look at the choo-choo, wets himself, plays in mud puddles, mumbles to himself.

SERGEANT MAJOR: Lifts tall buildings and walks under them, kicks locomotives off the track, catches speeding bullets in his teeth and eats them, freezes water with one stare....
...HE IS GOD.

The UK economy is doing way better than most of the EU, have a look:

Are you sure about that ...

"Its (UK) economy will grow next year at the slowest rate in the G7 group of leading industrialised economies (0.6%). This is considerably lower than, say, the 1.2% growth expected in the euro area or the 1.5% expected in the US.

Yep, it's common knowledge that the figures used to measure / predict growth in the UK are wrong. A corrected set of figures have been distributed but for some reason, they still keep using the old ones.

That's the last I'll say in this thread, I don't wish to incur the wrath of Fred Drift

The media is all over the place with the Luton Airport Car Park Fire, plenty of people already saying it must have been an EV that caused it - statistically much more likely to be an ICE fire that started it.

There are reports of loud explosions in the Luton Airport fire, which I would think also more likely to be ICE fuel tanks exploding.

As I understand it EVs burn intensely hot in fires but not explosively and so the combination of ICE and EV isn't good - perhaps we should keep the risky flammable ICE cars in a separate fireproof area?

At this stage we don't know the cause, it might have been an EV, all I am hearing is that a car "exploded" to start it, which could mean almost anything.

And of course it might also be arson or some other cause.

...and YET, STATISTICALLY MORE LIKELY TO BE ICE CAR. Late last night a fire ripped through the upper deck of the car park, collapsing the structure and affecting ~1200 cars, there is no evidence at the time of writing (7am 11/10/23) of the cause. This hasn’t stopped baseless speculation that an EV was ‘vehicle zero’ and internet rumours of it being an EV on charge were spread. An eagle-eyed person pointed out that the EV chargers at Luton are not in the car park affected (2) but are in fact in car park 1??
So rather than allow assumptions to catch hold, we would calmly remind people that according to statistical analysis from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency “Electric cars are less likely to catch fire less often than fossil fuel cars”, much less often in fact ?? ? Electric cars catch fire less often than fossil fuel cars#:~:text=%F0%9F%94%A5%20Electric%20cars%20catch%20fire%20less%20often%20than%20fossil%20fuel%20cars,-The%20fires%20in&text=Gasoline%20or%20diesel%2Dpowered%20cars,for%20car%20fires%20in%202022
And that, combustion cars have always been combustible due to the large quantities of liquid fuel required to run them, and that large car park fires, like the one in Liverpool in 2018 that tore through 1400 cars, with NO battery electric vehicles involved, are not uncommon ?? Car park fire at Liverpool Echo Arena destroys 1,400 vehicles
#StopBurningStuff spokespeople will be on standby to talk to media today and if you would like to point people in our direction, please email [email protected]
BUT we are not blind to the fact that it a battery electric vehicle does catch fire the consequences can be severe - although that’s far from guaranteed - and again we would calmly point out that the new generation of battery chemistries like sodium-ion and LFP (already in half of Teslas being manufactured) are ‘orders of magnitude’ i.e. many, many times safer and less prone to thermal runaway than the chemistries that have come before. Safety is critical, and with the evolution of BEVs, and the obsolescence of ICE, we and our cars can be much safer than ever before.

With best wishes, Dan Caesar

The car that started it looks like a Land Rover to me!

Yeh all this speculation about what was the cause of the fire is not good so please let us wait for an official report

Far more annoying and worrying on BBC Breakfast this morning is the cost of insurance for EVs check it out on IPlayer.
Article can be found around 8 minutes past nine

BBC reporting it was a diesel vehicle.

'Andy Hopkinson, Bedfordshire's chief fire officer, said the service had "no intelligence than to suggest it was anything other than an accidental fire".
He said it was thought the fire started with a diesel car, and then spread through the car park.'

All car insurance costs have gone up

Thats very unusal to see. Land rovers are usually broken down at the side of the motorway before they can reach the airport? Hope it is insured

The Daily Fail comments are now that it was

1. A cover up because it was an EV.
2. The Landriver picture is photoshopped
3. Diesel's are not able to catch fire because if you throw a lit match at diesel on the floor it wont catch on fire.
4. Its Hamas (yes there are a fair number assigning them the blame).
5. It was deliberately started to stop flights taking place to reduce their CO2 emissions.
