EV opposition in the media is ramping up

There has been Car Sickness in cars for Donkeys years, it's nothing new. But no doubt if the EV haters get hold of it, they'll
make a big deal of it. As for piped vroom vroom noises into the car, never seen the point meself. Me personally like the idea of a virtually silent (very quick) car. ??

My mate messaged me earlier saying a few of the media are reporting a fire in a salvage yard in Essex last night. Some said it was caused by an EV

Whatever the truth about this story is I’m starting to wonder with the amount of nutters there are in society now, how many of these fires are being caused deliberately?

Now I’m not saying an EV can’t catch fire, of course they can just like an ICE car can ( I believe ICE cars are 30% more likely? ) but with the amount of hate EVs get it would not surprise me in the least if there are one or two incidents started deliberately just to stoke the fire ( no pun intended )

You're underplaying it ... an ICE is a minimum 6x more likely to catch fire, 20x according to some statistics.

EV fires do happen sometimes. I gather something like 240 incidents in the last year there are figures for. Compared to around 20,000 road vehicle fires in total every year. So he's going to find some. While of course ignoring the ICE fires which are so common a lot of them don't get reported in the media at all.

Oh, and from what Geoff says, the next thing is that he's going to claim that the Jaguar that had to be stopped by the cops on the motorway had been taken control of remotely. Somehow. For some reason.

Yes, my friend has always been a bit prone to car-sickness, and I've handed the wheel over to her once or twice in the past when she said she was feeling sick. But she really has noticed that it's worse with Caliban than it ever was with Prospero, or indeed Ariel. A few other people are saying the same thing. But it's not like it's a widespread problem, and it will probably settle down as people get accustomed to riding in EVs.

I think that's generally along the lines of what people think. I expect the people who are feeling sick (or sicker than usual) in EVs will just get used to it.

Why not affix a stick-on (toy) steering wheel in front of your passenger? That way they can pretend they're driving and so keep their mind occupied.

There is 'some' truth in that. My son gets travel sickness and the EVs with harder suspension really affect him, which is why I test drove so many EVs really, no other reason . . . In the Polestar we didn't get far but the MG5 he's fine in.

So 'some' truth that probably also applies to sportier ICE cars too.

The new car smell used to make me feel car sick as a youngster. I was always travelling with the window open when sat in the back of my father's car to get some fresh air. It didn't help that he was a new car salesman.

Having said that the worst car for travel sickness he brought home for the weekend was a part-exchanged Bristol convertible. It wallowed that much we only got to the end of the road before both me and my brother were feeling sick.

Today I thought I’d have a look on Twitter ( X ) first time in a few months. Shortly after I was reminded why I stopped going on it.

Now I know it’s not everyone but bloody hell, there’s some real pillocks on there.

There was an article about India & how by 2030 their aim is for 30-40% of all vehicles to be EVs

No doubt we’ve all seen similar comments but it’s the first time I’ve seen an EV called an atom bomb ?

Anyway, on a more happy note. My daughter is jumping on the EV train. She might have a little wait, dealer hoping she’ll have it by mid-late June ?

Social media can be a hostile place, I miss the days where you could have a difference of opinion but the average person could just agree to disagree & move on.

& the posts about EVs just turn into complete war zones. I totally understand EVs won’t be for everyone, in todays world a lot of people are struggling financially so they couldn’t make the move now if they wanted to but it’s the ridiculous comments like the “Atom Bomb” that boggles my mind.
