Due to the budget nature of everything that is MG here in the UK in terms of support, back in June after a puncture (which fortunately was repairable), I discovered the make and model of tyres fitted to the MG3 HYBRID, are only available in Australia! Fat lot of good that is anywhere in the northern hemisphere.
After speaking to the UK office of Kuhmo tyres, they assured me they had ordered a stock of the specific size and model for customers with the MG3. Incidentally also spoke to MG UK Customer Service who were absolutely hopeless! When asking what I should do without mixing models of tyres on the same axle, they had precisely zero advice! Hence what I mean about a budget brand...If I had spent 60k on a MG Cyberster got this approach I would be feeling decidedly sick!
Anyway the problem, as I said above was averted as the puncture was repairable, and Kuhmo UK said they would be readily available.
Well having discovered a big screw on my front offside tyre - at the edge so not repairable, I started an Internet search, and so far the situation some seven months later is exactly the same as it was in June!
Now providing you of course fit the same size 195/55 R16 87H, many would argue, and indeed did at the time, that I can just fit a different make and model, it would be fine. Indeed to do so is perfectly legal, however as anyone who is expert would advise against mixing on the same axle for safety reasons, and who knows if you had an accident the thieves that are the insurance companies, may try and riggle on the claim.
Being someone who likes to be safe, and ideally have all four tyres matching, will now be forced to buy TWO TYRES for one puncture.
I remain to be proved wrong by Kuhmo, who may well say they do indeed have a spare KUHMO SOLUS HS63, in the right size, but somehow I feel they won't, and what they told me last summer about ordering some was just garbage.
As for MG Customer Service, they will be about as much value as an ashtray on a motorbike!!!!
The adage 'buy cheap, buy twice, seems to spring to mind!
