I thought I had a bad iphone cable in my 72 plate ZSEV because the Apple Car play kept disconnecting. I bought 3 different new cables and none of them work even an original Apple cable. 1 out of 20 times the Apple Car Play connects and stays connected but generally when I plug in the Car Play icon on the screen turns white to show it's connected and then within 2 secs it disconnects. Strangely the phone continues to charge from the cable but the Car Play is not connected.

Do you think this is a faulty USB socket? Has anyone else had this challenge?

It's the cable you are using, it has to be one that the car likes ? - whatever the seller tells you, the car decides... I tried quite a few (sold to me as original, fast, etc) before finding the right one...

search previous threads, plenty of posts there... and even better, switch to wireless dongle

But I have had the car for 2 years with no issues. Why would it start now. I will check the cable thread but not sure.

if that's the case, 2 possibilities - USB socket on the car got lose connections after so many plug-in - pull-outs or the cable you used got damaged. Depending on which connection is lose/damaged, charge would still work but not data transfer...

2. Anything happened with your phone? Have you updated it? Can you try the same cable connecting your phone and laptop to see whether that works?

Yes the phone is fine. I have tried 3 other iPhone in the car all with the same result. Yes the cable when plugged into my iPhone and laptop works perfectly every time. I think the USB socket may have a loose connection for data. I will take it into MG. Thanks for your help.
