Hi all, just got our first flat tyre. Looking to get a replacement but cannot find the exact match from the tyre details. Does anyone know what I should be searching for?

Apparently on the tyre it says Michelin Primacy 3st and the size is 215/55R17 Treadwear 340 Traction A and Temperature A

BTW really glad we paid for the spare wheel as we can now use it while we shop around for a good price.

Thanks

I got a flat tyre with sidewall damage last year and the Primacy 3 wasn't available so they replaced it with a Primacy 4 which has a slightly different tread pattern but I was assured it wouldn't cause issues and that's been the case.

Thanks Chris. We are members at Costco and I just called them to see what they have in stock. Apparently as long as the load is correct, we should be able to fit another tyre of the same size, and they have a Bridgestone one for about £120 incl fitting, so we will go over and check it out.

For info it seems that on the facelift trophy connect the full tyre spec is 215/55R17 94V

The guy at the Costco tyre place told us that the speed rating should be the same as they are not replacing both (or all 4) tyres. They had a 94W but they said we should find a 94V. That is why we went with the Goodyear option at eTyres which came to £119 with fitting.

Was that bulls#it advice? Should we have gone for the 94W instead?

No reason at all why you can't go up in speed rating.
The only thing that's not advisable is fitting different tyres on the same axle.

Thanks. What do you mean different? Different brand? Different load rating?

Different anything.
A tyre pair and ideally all four should be identical.
You may not feel any difference in normal driving but characteristic asymmetry can produce unwanted effects during more extreme manoeuvres like emergency braking.

If it was that important it would be mandated through the MOT...

Even if you got the identical make & spec tyre the fact that it was "new" & full tread etc would presumably introduce some element of difference in extreme handling characteristics ?‍♂️

Alb did mention extreme manoeuvres, so would not be blocking an MOT pass.. and considering we are driving run of the mill EVs, especially for me in London, I think my cheaper decision is fine. The next flat I get will probably see me getting a second Bridgestone to match the back wheels.

As it stands right now

legal requirement to ensure that car tyres of different construction types are not fitted to opposite sides of the same axle. The two main tyre types are radial and cross-ply, and these must not be mixed on the same axle.

Mixing brands and patterns of the same construction type is permissible depending on the vehicle type and manufacturers recommendation. Check your vehicle's handbook for tyre fitment

Can you still buy crossplies? Why would you?

Yes
They're a lighter tyre and resist impacts better and don't need as much pressure to stay safe
