Frozen Charging Port Door? (Flap)

Undo it with a T45 Star bit.

I think I've misread, it's already stuck in the mechanism?

Must be a mechanical fault as it should easily come out if unlocked.

Yes, the door/flap is open, however the bolt section has remained inside the car; it doesn't look like it has broken. More, unscrewed itself and just stuck inside. Weird. I'll get a pick tomorrow. Might be a garage job perhaps.

Try to undo it with the T45.

Make sure the car is unlocked.

You might get lucky, then just refit it to the door.

Thought I would try a thermal blanket for my charging flap seeing as it was going to be below zero last night (old towel in a bag 🤣)

Hopeless.

And this by the way, is with Red Grease on the rubber seal and a liberal amount of silicone spray in the pin mechanism.

Today I have blown out the pin mechanism to make sure it is dry and free of water and packed it with Red Grease.

It's supposed to be even colder tonight, so I have left off the high tech thermal cover and will see if it opens freely in the morning.

My money is firmly on it not opening.

I have no experience with ice on vehicles. But I wonder if cling wrap over the charge port area might at least make it easier to remove ice from the area in the morning, and maybe keep dew from trickling into the port overnight.

Used to own a Fiat barchetta with metal pop out door handles that would always freeze shut, solution was to pop a matchstick behind them so they were always accessible in the morning.

Not sure how practical this would be for the charging port door, at least it isn't voice activated..open the charging port door please HAL

It was -4°C when I went out earlier to put mine on charge ... charge flap opened quite easily, and I've done nothing special to protect mine. 🤷‍♂️

Mine won't open at the, think the pins frozen. Would trying to open it by using the boot manual release be likely to damage the pin, I've never had a look in there to understand how that mechanism works

It didn't open.

Unbelievable.

Currently -6°C here. Mine was open and charging overnight but won't close now. My eyesight isn't good enough to make out the problem.

"I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that "

Mine is not closing either after overnight charging. There is frozen water in the female part. I can wait for it to warm up a bit but hair drier would sort if you have to get going.

Did you remember to spray the hinge with silicone? 😁

Good Call.
Probably not tbh.

I was discharging last night so the flap is open and will stay that way as I'm off to town to charge her up.

I'll shut it but not completely to save any faff at the Superchargers.

I will have a go at the hinge before I go.

I unplugged and closed mine around 8pm last night after charging had finished ... No issues at all, even though it was still around -4°C and hadn't been above freezing all day.
