Gear shifting in EV mode, Warning

I suppose my question is, being a PHEV owner. Who doesn’t approach roundabouts at 40mph which is roughly the speed where the gearbox lag occurs in Ev mode, what is AMT mode and if it reaps huge benefits why is the default mode different. There must be a reason. Car manufacturers do not just choose something as default option for no reason.

My question might be did you read the link I posted regarding the full story of AMT mode ?

If not then when you read it you may answer your own question.

Look in here for AMT mode. It's owned by myself and my colleague who has studied this for 5 years.

I guarantee it will solve your problems. We have actually received confirmation from SAIC China and MG UK that the MG HS is actually arriving from factory with the AMT setting enabled.

Read the link stories. Nothing to lose ?
Mine arrived start of April and I changed the setting yesterday. Mine were still on the MT and CHN settings. Have done around 100 miles on the new settings. Seems to have helped the lag at junctions and roundabouts - it’s still fighting. Too early to see if fuel economy improved as it varies wildly anyway per “journey”

Well I must admit I was very sceptical about this when I first read it. However I took the plunge last week I have the HS PHEV and changed the setting from AT to AMT and mode 1 (on page 6 I think) and the difference has been very positive. The car is far smoother to drive the gearbox actually decides on a gear rather than hunt about and just making a noise and the fuel consumption has improved greatly. I do a round trip of 300 miles on a regular basis and I was averaging around 37-38 mpg for the whole trip. it would leave me with no battery and the fuel light on red. I did this trip again after the changes and the car returned 41mpg again no battery and around 65mille range left. Still not perfect the horrible 50mph lag hasn't improved mainly in EV mode that's a mechanical change that will be virtually impossible to iron out without a redesign. I have no idea why MG let these cars out with the settings the way they do, it must be to do with emissions what else can it be?

Anyway, a big thank you to John Smith the enjoyment of my car has greatly improved with these settings and I am saving a bit of money to boot.

Have just changed my Phev exclusive to Mode 1 and AMT.
Awaiting results with interest.
Will update later.
Hi
I changed over ATM the other week JS said not play around with any other setting in the engineering mode screen, I you changed something else called mode 1 on page 6 ? What is this about ?

This was the other setting the guys said to change for better results. However I have tried them but put mine back to original as I am happier with that setting.

I have moved my car mode back to none and left it in AMT and the results are better suited to my driving style. Car is smooth not hanging on to gears as long and doesn't hunt around so much, a far nicer drive than stock. MPG is better too but will monitor over time.
