Getting a spare key cut to help with locking in problem?

An expensive way to help escape from the car if it locks you in would be to hide a spare key and fob in the front bonnet area and hope someone is around and able to extract the blade key and open the driver’s door (you would need to release the bonnet catch first). But would having an additional fob in the car cause other problems? If so, I guess you could put the key into a faraday pouch.

instead of the above, would it work if you made a duplicate of just the blade key and hid that? Is it even possible to duplicate the blade bit?

That is the purpose of the emergency blade, to allow entry into the car if the battery is flat.
If the blank can be obtained it should be able to be cut.
A complete fob and the necessary coding is going to be expensive anyway.

I haven't got a 4, so can someone answer this, when it locks you in can you operate the windows to pass a key out or could you lean out and unlock it yourself with the blade?

You could do this but if you are going to those lengths why not fit a cabin battery cutoff to disable the deadlocks?

I believe the windows don't work so this is only possible if they are already open.

Personally, I have a small screwdriver on a retractable keychain in the boot. Attached to the webbing on the side. (For the boot release)
Mainly, because with my luck I would drop the key blade once I wrestle it out of the fob.

It gets to the point where if you have that little confidence in a car that you have to devise alternatives it case it locks you in, you shouldn’t be owning and driving it.

Apparently the Bluetooth key does not work when the car locks you in

Sadly the windows do not work in a locked in scenario

You get 2 key fobs with the car - they both have a physical emergency key. Why not remove the key from one of them and tape it under the bonnet?

There is no evidence it isn’t working. Just someone who recently got locked in their month old car that cant confirm or deny if the car was updated
