Hello,

I had the car set to charge last night for three hours as usual, first time in a few days.

For some reason the charge speed seemed to be limited to about 1.35kW.

I requested a full grid charge this morning after I noticed but before Pebbles took the car, still only at 1.35kW despite being set to max power everywhere I could see.

I will have to go to a Supermarket to see if I can get faster speeds there.

Or maybe speak to a neighbour but I don't really know the ones with EVs very well.

But does anyone have any thoughts or experience about what might be causing this?

Its a Givenergy EVSE, no problems previously.

So I took the car to the supermarket and it seemed to charge faster there.

Meaning the issue is with the charger so MG is off the hook.

I've posted on the Givenergy Forum and sent them an email.

No idea what the problem is but its now slower than a granny charger which is frustrating. But at least it is doing something so we can still charge at home where it is cheaper and more convenient (if less so because we are having to charge all the time not just during the cheap overnight).

I can only suggest trial and error :-

(i) resetting the GivEnergy charge point by disconnecting it's supply for 30 seconds and reconnecting
(ii) trying a different cable or checking your existing one if tethered.
(ii) doublecheck all your GivEnergy app settings if applicable

Thanks, I've made all the changes with the charger and app I can think of, including switching it off for half an hour.

I haven't done a full factory reset though, which is another option.

It is tethered but good thought about the cable. Maybe I should check in the morning whether there is anything lodged in there and try brushing/hoovering it out.

1. You can check whether the charger and your vehicle have set a charging limit or not.
2.There may be a problem with the charger, see if the charger is wrong, and see if there is an explanation on the manual.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I think the CT clamp is still in its box because there was no room for it in the consumer unit. It relies on the hybrid inverter CT I think. Battery and solar working fine.

My latest thought is that the charger has failed. It now just says 'offline' on the app so I can't give any instructions. It is flashing blue, which apparently means 'communication issue.'

I will ring Givenergy. They have a three year warranty.

Update: Got it back connected to WiFi by going through the connection process and putting in all the info again.

Possible that it was in the wrong mode but wasn't possible to change the mode when it wasn't connecting.

Will try again tonight as car isn't here now.

Huzzah - it seems to be working!

I think a factory reset might have done it. Wasn't sure if the factory reset had worked but I suppose that was why it was no longer connecting. It forgot the WiFi settings and had to be re-connected.

Forgot to update all the settings so we ended up unknowingly charging during the peak evening rate which is annoying.

But much less annoying than having to get a new one fitted.

Givenergy claim it was in a mode which limited the charging speed, though I don't remember changing the mode and I would have thought that the instruction to 'max charge' would override the mode.

So I'm back to having no complaints about Givenergy anyway.
