I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned, or at least I haven't seen it on this forum yet :)

Gridserve have launched their own charging app. Now a lot of us can get quite annoyed about the need for apps but when you install this one it offers a 20% discount off 'pump' prices until the end of September bringing the price down to 63p. Maybe handy for the summer.
You can use Google pay or I presume Apple pay in the app when choosing to charge but one flaw I thought though is that it if you want to use a card, it doesn't ask you set up a payment method until you want to charge.

????

I've just downloaded it ... it allowed me to add a card payment to my account right from the off. (Android app version).

Thanks for the heads-up ... this is quite timely as I'm off on a trip tomorrow and will likely be charging at Gretna services, so I'll use the Gridserve points if available. :)

Yes ... provided that they are at a suitable charging stop location. (Not all Tesla chargers are open to all - even now a greater proportion are not).

Jeez, surely there are loads of far cheaper options...Tesla?
Not loads in fact none of the mainstream are cheaper than 63p other than Tesla if it is open to all.

One of the reason Tesla superchargers are cheaper is that they choose sites that are not as attractive in terms of amenities but for them that’s not an issue as their target customers are still Tesla owners therefore no 800v charging nor allowance for staying even one minute without charging.

In fact I normally use the Tesla supercharger near home which is only 2% charge away from me, at off peak times when I need to charge back up to 80% rather quickly as I only have a granny charger at home and this is cheaper than buying my own charger: while I wait I normally do some admin or watch something in peace

On the way down to the Home Land on Friday afternoon, the queue to get into Gretna services main car park was insane so I cut through and just used an Ionity charger near the BP garage. (When I walked over to the services I noticed that all the Gridserve charger points were being used anyway). On my way back home today I used a Gridserve charger - the app worked flawlessly and was easy to use. (Tip: the charger number is on the front right at the top of the housing). Discount was applied automatically.

I tend to avoid Gretna anyway. It's an anthill. If I need a charge near there I go for the Carlisle Ionitys.
I was going to say that these would take me out of my way, but they're actually the other side of the junction that I would usually take to head towards the A69. :)

If you're driving up the M6/M74, they're actually less of a detour off the main carriageway than the chargers at Gretna are. (Gretna has quite a long run-in.)

If you download the app, it's worthwhile registering your credit card at the same time (Account /Wallet) since your provider may require verification and it's easier doing this at home rather than when trying to charge.

But I'm always driving South down the M74/M6, then usually cut off at J44* to take the A689 to the A69. Coming back is the reverse. But as those Ionitys are so close to J44 then that still makes them viable. :)

* Unless the sat nav suggests taking the Longtown route instead, which is before J44 and just south of Gretna. You can actually cut on to the Gretna road then on to the Longtown road from the southbound roundabout at Gretna services. :)

Ah, I see what you mean. I'm not usually interested in either Carlisle or Gretna when I'm driving south. Too soon. Forton in summer, and now it will be Tebay in winter, as there are chargers there now.

I get the option of using Apple pay which seldom requires a banking check.

There is currently 20% off Gridserve if you use their App. It brings the price down to 62p and the app seems to work well. It took me a while to see where they put the location number on their rapid chargers (right at the very top) but once I sorted that it was all very smooth, It even gives you a charging profile graph after it is done.

Just to blow my own trumpet, (no-one else will) I posted similar a month ago. :)

Yes I used that yesterday to top up at Watford Gap. All worked well with a highish 125 kwh speed initially and a 20% discount !!
