Had my quote for a Trophy. Should I get any of these extras?

Update.

Had a very annoying call with the dealer on my lunch break. He tried to say the MG4s only come partially charged, so they have to top them up. The admin fee is a cost for the paperwork they have to go through (isn't that part of their job!). They can sell me the mats but they come at a cost of £70. But they don't offer any mud flaps. He tried to push that he was being as reasonable and fair as he could be and was trying to help me through the process of buying my first car. I explained that I though giving them 30k cash for the top spec car would afford me the courtesy of not being nickeled and dimed (which he didn't know the meaning of, oh the irony!). He then tried to tell me that 30k might be a lot to me but it isn't much in relation to the cost of other cars. He again tried to push me to pay before inspecting the car but then gave me the option of coming to look at the car this weekend, handing over the money but then coming back the following weekend to pick up the car. He also then said he was getting the feeling he had lost my trust and I should check out the Google reviews to see how good they are. I said when you try are charge me £30 to charge the vehicle when I'm giving you 30k cash then it's a good was of losing trust.

Left the call by saying I need to discuss with my partner and that she had started ringing round other mg dealers in the area to enquire of their costs.

An hour later he messaged me to say that there would be no fuel charge, no admin fee and "Luscombe" mats would be included. Grand total cost of £150 but it was the provincial. I conceded on booking a day off work to go pick up the car next Monday, which isn't much of an issue and after a tough week will be nice to have a 3 day weekend anyway.

Thanks for everyone's help ?

The mud flaps thing is weird if so many of you have had them fitted at the dealership. Are there official MG4 ones I can get?

I'm not aware of anyone having dealer-fitted mudflaps ... we've all fitted them ourselves (after buying off AliExpress or similar).

What's the £150 grand total cost covering? (Or is that the effective "discount" for those things?)

Good work not settling for his nonsense.

As for the mudflaps, folks on here have DIY’d them, purchasing from AliExpress or eBay. I don’t think MG do them

I have misunderstood then. My bad

Do I even need to all mud flaps to the car then?

Personal choice really. They help keep the road grime off the sides of the car, and are a really inexpensive option and easy to fit as well

Good work.

I got the mud flaps from Aliexpress because the first time I took the car through a hand car wash it rained on the way home and I could see the mud spatter on the side of the car. And I think they look smart.
Thanks. Could have done without the stress and probably would have paid for the £49 admin fee if not for the fuel charge. Needlessly penny pinching

Apologise for hijacking this thread slightly, but with the mud flaps, has anybody had any issues with watering ingrass between the plastic and the bodywork, or is there a rubber seal

There is no seal and it isn't needed. The fit on the outside of the bodywork and use the original fittings that hold the wheel arch liner in place.

I very nearly bought a car from Luscombe's back in February. I had exactly the same conversations with them about cost to charge, mats, no type 2 cable etc - they would not move on anything. In the end it cost them the sale, which they really didnt like but they did refund my £500 deposit very quickly.

To be honest I think I've only been able to push them cause it's the end of the month and the guy needs my sale for his quotas.

He also said MG (as in talking about them in the third person) wouldn't upgrade the car when there is a new firmware upgrade, only if it was to upgrade due to a fault with the prior firmware. We need OTA updates so we don't have to deal with these dealerships

I think what he is saying is that MG won't pay for updates outside annual services or warranty claims, which is well known.

However, savvy and helpful dealers are still doing upgrades in some cases without a charge, for example using a USB stick to upgrade infotainment.

Not every dealer will have the same policy, so it is worth asking around.

The bigger question is will Series 1 cars get updated to more recent infotainment versions and receive some new features from Series 2 (eg one pedal). We are not hearing about people getting the newer versions at the moment.

My dealership is telling me that it's is wrapped at the factory but I was under the understanding it was painted black
Your dealership continues to excel in their product knowledge and 1990's sales techniques. I hope you get a good car because they sound like they will be a nightmare to deal with if you get one with niggles

They have sent me pictures and it actually does look to be wrapped

What's everyone's thoughts?
