Heater not working

During the COVID-19 months I found my heater was not working. Recently I tried to start the under-utilised car and the 12 V battery was flat. I removed the negative terminal lead, in accordance with the owners instruction booklet, and charged the battery. When it was fully charged I replaced the cable to the terminal and drove the car. Hey Ho, the heater worked again. The moral of this story is that a low charged battery will inhibit the heater from working but the heater itself has no fault.

I believe the heater fan is run by the 12-volt battery, unlike the heater element which is run by the High Voltage Battery.

Not sure about that. The heater fan blew strong cold air until 12 v went flat. When I took the car into dealership they advised fault. Did not attend subsequent repair appointment (cancelled) as fully charging 12v brought the heater back to producing hot air.

I take it with the 12v battery being below a certain voltage you could not set the car to ready or drive the car until you charged up the battery when the battery is fully charged that would have brought on line the high volt battery, hence you getting hot air when the battery was fully charged, be careful you don't let the 12-volt battery discharge too much when your out and about or it could be a call to the AA, to get you going again as many posts on here will verify did you establish what caused your battery to run down as there was talk of faulty batteries in some ZS EVs.

Right - thanks. I’ll watch the 12v performance carefully. I think the battery ran down due to 5 weeks in the garage. Handbook actually says that if the vehicle is stored for more than one month you should disconnect the 12 V negative supply cable.

Currently shows 14v on the dash. So, fingers crossed!! Have just completed a 50 mile round trip with everything working OK.

14V means it's being charged by the HV battery.
It won't actually be 14V.
