Heating suddenly works with A/C turned off

Since the outside temperatures dropped I was forced to turn the heater on again. Usually heating only worked when A/C was turned on, but I was surprised to see that now it also works when A/C is off.

Was there a software update to fix this issue? I had my first year service this July, but I have no idea what updates the dealer applied.
