Hi all, we are driving from London to Lincoln and need to charge but it's not working.
Have tried to charge at two completly seperate changing locations with different charging companies.
Tried two separate bays at each location.
Tried different authentication cards.
Tried leaving the car locked for 20 min to see if it resets it's self.

In all cases all seams to work OK till the charge point trues to communicate with the car. It seems to fail to communicate.

Have made sure no scheduled charging is set up on the car.

Anyone any ideas???

Stuck halfway home about to call recovery people.

have you checked the charge level is less than the max charge level set in the car?

Have you called the charger providers and asked them what they are seeing?

“Seems to fail to communicate” - what does this mean? What ARE you seeing? What you aren’t seeing isn’t that useful.

Do any of them have a type2 socket you can plug into to get a bit of charge while you are trying to sort it out?

The communication pins are at the top of the plug. A heavy cable can sometimes pull those pins away from the socket in the car.
Try supporting the plug until charging starts.
Thanks but i was careful to ensure the CCS plug was fully home and tried holding in place. So dont think it was that.

Charge level is 14%
Both chargepoint type have same issue so it must be the car that is the issue.

The charge points both say trying to communicate with the car and in both cases retry 2 or three times

Hi all, well that was a nightmare journey. Called AA to recover us home but after an hour they refused to do so as I told them there was no issues charging the car on a 7kW charger at home. They concluded the car could be charged even at a slow speed so would not recover us (super helpful AA just an excuse not to come out to the job).
So finally had to charge on a slow charger for 4 hours to get enough charge to get us home.
Retrospectively I am convinced the issue is with the car. I had a software upgrade 2 to 3 months ago to R59 and had not rapid charged since then. I think the upgrade has bugged up the rapid charging. I have it booked in for Monday for it to be looked at by a different dealer.

I have had the same issue with Instavolt and they got it working their end after phoning them. I know you have tried two different charge points but surely it's worth a try in ringing them ?

Tried to charge the car on two rapid chargers today near to home. Neither would charge the car so now I'm 100% sure the issue is with the car. I suspect this issue has been introduced when the car was updated to software version R59. It's going to a dealer on Monday to be looked at.

To be clear to anyone who reads this and to avoid spreading FUD:

There is no general issue with R59 and rapid charging generally speaking - in a small part because R59 is the infotainment version and I think it is safe to assume has little to do with battery management, but mainly because the first thing I did after getting my car upgraded yesterday was to take it to the Tesla chargers near me and charged from 20% to 80% before taking the car for a drive out.

If it is failing with a range of different DC chargers then there is probably something wrong with the car and going to the dealer is the right thing to do.

Dealers often try software updates first, so it is imperative that you make sure they have tested DC charging at the dealership (they should have the facilities to do this) and given it a good long charge to test it - don't be fobbed off with them wanting you do that testing for them and then have to come back.

AA recovery's attitude might seem harsh but they have a point, AC charging still lets you continue the journey and they have to balance their costs in callouts vs what they get from MG to cover people's cars.
